WI Senate bill yet another assault on women

Wisconsin Bill Claims Single Moms Cause Child Abuse by Not Being Married
By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Shine | Parenting – Fri, Mar 2, 2012 8:12 PM EST

A state senator in Wisconsin says being single causes child abuse and neglect.
In Wisconsin, a state senator has introduced a bill aimed at penalizing single mothers by calling their unmarried status a contributing factor in child abuse and neglect.

Senate Bill 507, introduced by Republican Senator Glenn Grothman, moves to amend existing state law by "requiring the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board to emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect."

The bill would require educational and public awareness campaigns held by the board to emphasize that not being married is abusive and neglectful of children, and to underscore "the role of fathers in the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect." .... more

GRRRR... Do these "family values" people really believe that abandoned women and children are a modern phenomena? Do they believe that teenagers didn't get pregnant back in the day? And who's to say that the presence of the father in the home isn't abusive in and of itself? AND who died and appointed this asshole "god"?

Ladies, we need to march in large numbers and very loudly.

Force them to re-marry so there is a man around? My Grandpa died when my Mom was 4 and my Uncle was 2. Grandma never re-married. Take her children away from her because she refused to get married again?

would have the widows burned and have the orphans sold to prevent a $.20 per Wisconsin resident increase in taxes. Seriously, I think Lesee or Jacques would support this.

Their going to get all the unmarried parents in a room and draw lots.
Of course they will have to be careful that a widower doesn't draw another widower, even if the winners don't mind.
Their will be no do-overs, you takes what you gets and if you don't like it you can't live in Wisconsin any more.
Makes about as much sense as anything else coming out of repugs of late.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the status of being an unmarried, single parent has any effect on a child. They are just throwing shit into the air and hoping it sticks.

and make certain that the shit blows back on them. I'm am so angry. I've lived my life for this insult. Behind me comes a daughter and little granddaughters. I'll be damned if I contribute to leaving a world in this condition for those little girls.

My hubby bailed on me and my kids to be with another woman. How is that child abuse and neglect on my part?

on public radio. He claimed that kids raised in single-parent households were 20 times more likely to be victims of "abuse" that those raised in households where both biological parents were present. He also said this was not the case for those who were widowed or widowers.

For the record--he spewed hate and used the GOP buzzwords(Democrat senators vs. democratic, etc). He seemed to be one of the loud-mouthed liberal-haters that needs a punch in the throat(figuratively-heehee)

BUT--I don't think there would be any actual penalty--he seems to want it simply acknowledged. This is most likely only a symbolic gesture.

I would guess that there are less instances of abuse in 2-bio-parent households than in some others. But I am sure this guy is a prick, since the GOP in this state allows only pricks to serve.

The second half of the following link should be of the honorable Mr. Grothman and his progressive views.

or another parental figure, being either same or opposite sex.

They obviously left that part out.

Having a second parental figure would correct the problem
wouldn't it?? Now you'd have a "whole" family!
