Why are the media continuing to give a microphone to Ted Cruz?

Listening to NPR, who claims that Cruz's time in DC has been "remarkable", I am sick to death of seeing and hearing this hateful attention hog. His 15 minutes of fame has been disastrous and costly.

Cruz doesn't get his "power" from the grass roots, as NPR claims, but from his willingness to use illegitimate tactics, with the backing of secret big money, and media's pandering to the shiny object rather than engaging in real journalism.

Time to stop enabling!

2. The more he talks the better

Ted Cruz is liked by a small minority, and loathed by everyone else including a significant portion of his own party. The more exposure he gets the more it will drive the Republican brand into the ground as people see up close how crazy and vile they are.

5. The People of Texas gave him his access to the media, it is their doing

I know we are supposed to say that Red States are exactly like Blue States then blame the media that Red States like Texas elect lunatics but fact is that lunatic got his standing because Texans pay him 167,000 a year to do that on their behalf. It is Texan voters who should be checking him on his crusade to harm America but they refuse.

Who can make exactly the same claim you just made. By that reasoning, the national media should not be so willing to give the spotlight to someone so clearly out of touch with what the majority of voters across the nation want.

9. Since when did Represtative of a district have equal status to Senators?

Your concept that the voters of Texas did not elect him and hold no accountability for his presence in the Senate is sweet, I guess. They sent Cruz to grandstand and draw attention to himself, and that's what's happening. Had they elected the Democrat, Cruz would be at home with his Goldman Sachs wife.
The media sucks, but they did not elect him to the Senate. Texas did that. Texas did that with full knowledge of who he is as he was their longest serving Solicitor General. He won his Senate Seat 56-41 over the sane Democratic candidate. 15 points. Landslide of love for Cruz.
But sure, it's the fault of others. Elections have no consequences, right?

8. But how many first-term senators are given this kind of constant media coverage?

This is also an ongoing decision by the media.

10. How many show up and start in on the grand theatrics Texans sent him to perform?

Not many. This man had served in Texas for years, they knew exactly what and who he is. They own his presence in the Senate, they seem to support his actions in that chamber as well, sure don't see mass protests against him in Austin.
We can also blame the media if you want to, they suck so that's fine, but to pretend that intentional election of radical right wing politicians is not worthy of criticism because of the media is insipid. Those voters screwed America for the sake of some racist Teapublican fantasia. Sorry. That's what they did.

They've basically called his next election in his favor already, and they actually used the phrase "it plays well in Texas" to describe the local party's response to his potentially world-shattering antics.
