Source: Shooter at Nevada middle school took handgun from parents


(CNN) -- (Breaking news update at 5:25 p.m. Monday) The shooter who opened fire at a Nevada middle school Monday used a handgun taken from his parents to shoot a teacher, according to a federal law enforcement source who has been briefed on the situation. The shooter then used the handgun to shoot and kill himself, the source told CNN's Evan Perez.

2 dead at Nevada middle school; witness says student shot teacher

(CNN) -- A student opened fire at a Nevada middle school on Monday, killing a staff member and wounding two students, police said.
The "student/suspect" in the shooting is also dead, Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras said.

Authorities said it was too soon to say whether the suspected shooter was killed by a self-inflicted wound or a law enforcement shot. ...................(more)

Yes, I admit, kids are clever little buggers and SOME of them will still get to the weapons if those precautions are taken.

But FEWER will, and that's the goal: harm reduction.

I don't get why this is so hard to embrace.
