Thief Robs Girl Scouts (Whoa!)

<snip>
The man walked up, inquired after the girl’s cookie flavors, before grabbing the cashbox and running to a waiting vehicle, KHOU reported.

Two of the scrappier girls, Rachel Johnson and Iravia Cotton, chased after him. Johnson held onto the moving car’s bumper briefly, and Cotton reached into the black Camry to punch the thief. “Who steals money from Girl Scouts, I mean, really?” Johnson wondered.

The girls, who had been hawking cookies at the Walmart for four hours, estimated there was $200 in the cashbox. (But the troop won’t be hurting for cash: after news of the theft was broadcast on the Dean and Rog Morning Show, donations to the troop started pouring in. One man alone donated $200, the Houston Chronicle reported.)

The scouts did not mince any words when talking to reporters about the theft: “We’re going to find you,” one of the scouts told KHOU’s Nakia Cooper. “And I hope that God does something to you.”

Glad they were't hurt.
Is there a merit badge for that?

If I was still a leader this is the one I would give them.

Special Agent
Investigation
A special agent wears many hats—detective, scientist, psychologist, enforcer of the law. No wonder novels and shows about their work are so popular! In this badge, grab your magnifying glass and your microscope, and uncover your skills in one of the most exciting—and demanding—jobs for investigative minds.

There is also a "make your own badge" they could go with: punch a thief in the face.

My wife and I thought about putting our son in scouts, but we decided against it given the BOY Scouts rightward tilt.

I have to say that the Girl Scouts must be a great organization because they piss off all the right people!

8. I know

that feeling. My youngest wants to join the BS big time. I most likely will go ahead and let him join. What I remember from when my other son was a BS, they did not lecture on the politics of the organization. If they did that I would have pulled him out so fast and loud their ears would still be ringing.

My kids learn their values at home. Not at some 1 hour meeting once a week. Besides, kids that age don't care about the politics.

So I will let him join and who knows he may become the person to change that policy in the future. (hey, I can dream) Most likely as he gets older and realizes the bigotry they endorse he will decide to drop out.

He does learn his values from US.

We may let him give it a try. It certainly may be a path to some more positive friends than some others. My wife and I would also monitor the content of lessons. When he was 3 we pulled him out of a daycare that was teaching lessons from the book that bill bennett wrote in his times away from the casinos.

They ask that the parents stay for the meetings, so monitoring will be easy enough. They really push for parental involvement: Does anyone know how to tie ropes. We are going to practice knots next week and we would really love to break the boys up into small groups for practicing. That type of stuff.

I think my other son was about 12 when he made the choice to stop going. He just didn't like it anymore once the boys got older and formed their little clicks.

I think that my son'd be ok as far as that's concerned. As I've shared in other DU posts, he is African American, and being Black, he is automatically UNIVERSALLY cool!

If he happens to run into racista, he knows how to deal.

Thank you for the interesting "conversation", BTW!

Sorry I couldn't reply last night, had to run. Instead of boycotting BS, I think we need to register our sons enmass. This is the trick the conservatives are using to take over. Even on school boards. It is time to fight back and not cede ground to them.

LOL about your son. My niece has been a foster parent to an AA since she was 3. (She is now 17.) I can attest to the fact that kids do not notice the color af a person's skin until the age of 8. My youngest asked me one day. Mom, me, you, Daddy, Ashlee's Mom, Dad and brother; everyone in our family is the same skin color. But, Ashlee is not. Why is that?

As for the GS. I must have missed the meeting where we were instructed to teach the girls to stand outside PP to sell abortions and turn people gay.

...I was white, mom was light brown (Puerto Rican) and he was dark brown.

I'll guess that you missed the GS meetings about abortions and being gay because you didn't attend meetings that took place in the "minds" of total loons.

and we sold cookies the next afternoon at a grocery store in my area (the next suburb over). The other mom and I stood on either side of the table for 2 hours, with one girl at the box and two girls in front of the table talking to the customers. Our boxes are $4.00 each and as it is our troop only gets about .60 per box so the girls really work hard for their money. They use it, along with dues, for their camping and other activities throughout the year.

that was a bit more rambunctious, scrappier, and rough-and-tumble than the rest (full disclosure, that was us).

I'm guessing this is the Girl Scout equivalent of The Troop You Do Not Mess With: punched the thief, "We’re going to find you,and I hope that God does something to you."
