Parents of 12-year-old Nev. school gunman may face charges

The parents of a seventh grade student who killed a teacher and wounded two students before taking his own life could face charges if police determine the boy got the semi-automatic gun from home, police said today.

"The potential is there [for charges to be filed]," said Sparks Police Department Deputy Chief Tom Miller. He said that decision would have to be left up to the local prosecutor's office.

Miller said investigators believe the 12-year-old obtained the Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun from his home, however authorities are still trying to confirm the origin of the firearm.

He declined to identify the boy out of respect for his grieving family, but said he was a seventh grade student at Sparks Middle School.

Who is prone to anxiety attacks, and he lashes out at others when he is upset.

His Father has incouaged him to be a gun nut. He is only 10 now. but I wonder what will happen as he gets older and has to deal with Children picking on him in school. It just seems like a recipe for disaster.

Some people and no children should have access to a weapon.

The doesn't mean don't teach children to respect guns or even hunt. But guns should always be stored so Children Can't get to them unsupervised

We can't prevent every shooting. but it seems like a good precentage of them can be prevented.

I have suffered from that kind of anxiety since I was very young, a gun was the last thing I would have needed as a kid. Kids aren't capable of thinking things through yet, this kid could go either homicidal or suicidal. Horrific either way.

Teenage years are hard enough to survive without extra complications.

My Oldest son just started middle school this year. and for the first month Everytime he got off that bus I didn't know if I would see a smiling kid, a sad kid, or a mad kid. He is beginning to settle down now that he realizes the sky will not fall if perfection is not achieved.

He is starting to put all this pressure on himself to be perfect for fear of getting picked on. I try to tell him little tricks my mother taught me to survive. #1 one being if someone is picking on you just say "thanks for pointing that out, you're awesome." smile and walk away

or my favorite Answer every question or statement with a question even if it doesn't make any sense
Ex. Eww why is your book bag that color? Answer, "Did you know some frogs can fly?"

While they are confused walk away

How did you learn to curtail your anxiety?

I grew into an angry young woman who eventually barely functioned, causing career failure and a big rift with my family. I gradually got it together and got professional help, some not great but some very good and I pass as normal, but even with medication and therapy I can feel the anxiety and experience the OCD, but knowing that it is just an illness and not representative of my being a failed person is an enormous benefit.

They'll tell you how safety is the issue as they take kids out to shoot targets that resemble people.

Because apparently we need to have a respect for deadly weaponry.

Northern Calif. sheriff’s deputies shoot, kill 13-year-old carrying replica assault weapon

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Northern California sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a 13-year-old boy who was carrying a replica assault rifle after repeatedly telling him to drop it, sheriff’s officials and family members said.

Two Sonoma County deputies on patrol saw the boy walking with what appeared to be a rifle around 3 p.m. Tuesday in Santa Rosa, Sheriff’s Lt. Dennis O’Leary said. The replica gun resembled an AK-47 with a black magazine cartridge and brown butt, according to a photograph released by the sheriff’s office.

with a semi-auto rifle be approached? Are the police obligated to respect the rights of law-abiding people and leave them in piece or would you prefer the police make every effort to take away the rifle?
