Polls show growing support for Obamacare
By Steve Benen
A new Gallup poll was released this morning showing public support for the Affordable Care Act inching higher, from 41% in August to 45% now. In isolation, thats a pretty modest shift in a single poll, and hardly worth getting excited about. But its not the only poll showing improved support for Obamacare.
This week, four national polls have been released Gallup, CBS News, CNN, and ABC/Washington Post and all four show the health care law more popular now than the last time the pollsters asked.
To be sure, you can look at the chart I put together and see that in each instance, support for the law is below 50%, so its obviously far too soon to characterize the Affordable Care Act as popular. Its not.
But the shift in public attitudes comes as a bit of a surprise. The only major news related to the law in recent weeks has been considerable coverage of technical problems with the systems website. I largely expected the polls to show declining favorability in light of all the negative press coverage.
And yet, there are four independent, national polls showing the exact opposite.

Even on this board, posting one story after another about the "failure", and now the "lawsuits" that will follow, I'm sure it's innocent but annoying just the same.
Give it a rest, I say...
Sheesh.

The GOPs newfound interest in healthcare briefings
By Steve Benen
On Capitol Hill today, Michael Hash, who leads the HHS Office of Health Reform, will join House Democrats at their weekly meeting to discuss the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. It will be the first time an Obama administration official briefs members of Congress since the open-enrollment period launched three weeks ago.
Republicans are outraged.
At first blush, this probably seems persuasive. After all, the Affordable Care Act is a national law affecting everyone, and it stands to reason the Obama administration should provide detailed information to lawmakers in both parties, not just allies. Perhaps Republicans are right to complain about this snub.
Or perhaps not. Democratic officials have been quick to note that the Obama administration reached out to the House Republican Leadership on Sept. 25 to offer the exact same briefing House Democrats will receive today.
Republicans didnt respond and now claim they dont remember learning of the offer.

Far too much information about Obamacares rollout is being concealed from the public, said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner. All members as well as the American people deserve answers for this debacle. Thats why we have asked the administration to provide the same briefing to House Republicans. This snub is all the more offensive after Secretary Sebelius declined to testify at a House hearing this week. Its time for the Obama administration to honor its promises of transparency and face some accountability.
