I was wondering why Mr. Shrike was being so damned friendly, so to speak, when I realized he was purring. Cat snuck in when he went to bed. Our cats are male and very big and cuddly.
Back off dude!

(2,679 posts)Last night though the Bed Gods must have heard my pleas. The big orange cat (I use his name as my DU name), was on my chest. My little grey cat (Precious) at my feet. And my big dog (Great Pyrenees - Corporal Hicks) by my side. I didn't tell them to sleep with me, just they all always seem to coagulate on my bed as the night wears on. The dog didn't think he had enough room so he was pushing and trying to sit on my face most of the night. Then the miracle happened. He fell off the bed. The cats got scared and left. Leaving me to reclaim my area and sleep.

(12,157 posts)Ours are outside always and at night the seldom sleep as they are telling the coyote demons that the wrath of the angel dogs awaits them if they step a paw into their pastures. Amazing dogs these Pyrs.
From the 1st that came to live with us we saw how they have non-verbal communications with the goat. I've wondered if they can do the same thing with humans if humans are their primary pack/herd. Do let me know.
And I am not sleeping with Chou-Chou or Paddy in my bed, 2 cats are enough. BTW, our dogs like the cats and take care of them as well.

(2,679 posts)He goes where ever I go. But he is still afraid, of the tiniest cat I have - although respects her space would be a better word instead of afraid. She will pop him and sometimes she pops him for no reason. But he gets along with my cats. I also have a stray feral cat outside. I just got this dog in June and he was a puppy. We had another dog but he past away in May. When we got Hicks we already had the cats and the two inside loved our dog that just died. The one outside tolerated him. The indoor cats did not like puppy at first but the outside cat had no problem with him.
Now he is 6 months and not full grown yet, he his a little over 60lbs so he has another 60lbs to go. But he is the size of a lab right now. The outside cat still loves him and the indoor cats have finally given in they like him now. They play all the time.
These are great dogs! Very smart. Mine talks a lot and I don't mean barks a lot, I mean talks very vocal. But very smart and well behaved.

(3,163 posts)Better off with the cat, who isn't as mouthy as the gf , as long as I don't let her food dish run out. Lol

(11,366 posts)Luckily for me, I sleep with three dogs (and a cat and a husband) every night. I have one of those prop-up pillows that allow you to prop-up and read or watch TV in bed. I scootch down at night and sleep on the regular pillow below it and the cat likes to sleep over my head on top of the prop-up.
The dogs - a cocker, a Chihuahua and a Beagle/hound mix sleep along my side and at my feet. It's hot in the summer, but downright wonderful in the winter.
I also have two other dogs: one sleeps with my son and the other is a nervous Nellie who will NOT relax and sleep unless she's kenneled, but, she likes that, so that's where she stays at night.
