DuckDuck Go

Somebody here in DU mentioned subject search engine, can't remember who, tho I've looked..

It seemed to be in a derogatory way, but I honestly can't recall the context of the OP..

Anyway, I looked it up and have used it for a few plants and words and it's very fast, clean and neat....there must be dozens of engines out there and it seems all we use is Google and Yahoo, though I've been locked in on Dogpile for the past year or so.

Anyone recall mentioning it here in DU and why?

Open Source and Free Software attracts most of the people here that actually do know what they're talking about.

NSA data collection was revealed. DuckDuckGo does not collect and sell (or just hand over) your search history.

Anonymous and fast..

But how do they make their money?

Wikipedia started out by being independent, etc., and I wonder what its standing is now..

Wikipedia is owned by the Wikimedia foundation, a non-profit. Someone named Jimmy Wales is the driving force behind it.

I'm sure it wasn't the place where I saw it mentioned because I never was at that site. I hang out mostly in GD where it seems I can learn the most in the shortest time...

Just like now

Thanks...

I tried looking it up a few days after I saw it mentioned, and knew it had "ducks" in it somewheres and searched using wrong name.

Much appreciate your trouble.

I like the site and wonder why it's not more popular.

It has a marvelous source for plants. I found out more about "artemisia" there than other sites. Bought some on the cheap because it's on clearance and wondered what in the helll to do with it.

I also use the Ghostery plug in on my computer and Ghostery browser on my phone.

I have it set to block all trackers.

Right now it is blocking 2 google trackers on DU. Some sites have many trackers. 10-20.

The Ghostery browser uses DuckDuckGo as its default search engine.
