I really have to say I think it's great that Fox has taken time to profit off of "honoring" America's veterans during these World Series games, seeing as how Fox News worked so hard to feed so many thousands of soldiers into the meat grinders of Iraq and Afghanistan...again, for profit.
You really want to honor our veterans, Fox? Send Rupert Murdoch and the rest of his henchmen out to home plate, have them get on their knees, and let them beg for forgiveness from the shades of the men and women who can't do something so simple as watch a baseball game because they're dead in wars your network promoted as if they were a fucking game show.
Fuck you sideways, Fox. The only thing you honor is ratings, and I will literally thank God out loud the day Major League Baseball un-fucks itself and finds another network for these great games. The troops deserve far, far better than the saccharine bullshit "honor" Fox is peddling.

(37,726 posts)FOX totally blows covering the entire ballgame, to be able to squeeze in the same commercials 20 times per each and every game. What's happening on the sidelines? FOX don't care as long as Flow the "Progressive" insurance geek and the GEICO Lizard get their 2 cents in, between every play and 40 times with every timeout. They come back from the commercials after the time out and go to what's going on in some other games around the country, that you could care less about. That wouldn't be so bad, but your team, who was 1st and goal on the other team's two yard line when they cut away, has now been backed up to their own two and getting ready to punt and they cut away to tell you about your pimples and blackheads and some wonderful new designer beer, that in reality, tastes like stale shit. The guys calling the games, don't know a punt from a bunt, but they are workin' cheap. FOX's sports coverage, is as fucked up as a barrel of football bats!
Even if FOX had great sports coverage, their news network would still blow.
adirondacker
(2,921 posts)/ videographers are just as bad as others have pointed out. I think I'll try radio for sound and put up with watching the crappy video coverage of fox for the next game. It's truly pathetic.

(37,726 posts)and it's as polluted with commercials, even more so than TV was back when you got it free on an antenna.

Last night at about 11:40 in the 8th inning I finally just got fed up. The constant never-ending closeups were hurting my eyes so I turned it off and went to bed.

(30,764 posts)We had to see it on the replay.
Furthermore, I hate sports blathering. They do enough of it before and after the games. It is mostly just ignorant gasbaggery, and I seldom learn anything. But now they have to blather during the games, too? Did you see that, TWICE. they did not do play-by-play on hits, because they were blathering with sidelined players? We had to see and hear about those on the replays, too.
And that final obstruction call? The camera should have gone straight to third base. My husband saw it right away, but I only saw a bit of it, and had to catch that on replay, too. Also, it could have been explained better. I thought it was a fair call, but they did not do their jobs discussing it.
They suck.

(14,022 posts)The home plate umpire is supposed to watch the play in front of him, which was clearly a tag out... but he motions safe!
We was robbed.

(14,022 posts)another direction to back up another umps ruling. That could have happened after the play ended. The runner was clearly tagged out by Salty...
Besides, the home plate umpire had gotten too many strike calls wrong (seven when we stopped counting) ALL in Cardinals favor.
Was he biased? Yes.
Did it throw the game? Yes.
Was we robbed? YES.
(As we are Sox fans, we cannot be expected to be rational about some things. However, I DID say that it is "only a game"
Ranchemp.
(1,991 posts)but DeMuth had already been informed by Joyce that the obstruction rule was being applied, DeMuth was looking towards 3rd base when Middlebrook obstructed Craig and saw Joyce give the sign, he called him safe because once the obstruction call had been made, the play was dead.
Here's the video, you can clearly see that DeMuth was watching Craig and Salty.
DeMuth didn't make the obstruction call, Joyce did and every umpire there agreed that it was the correct call.
And judging by the comments I've seen on the sports page, even the majority of Sox fans agree it was a good call.
aggiesal
(8,923 posts)As a baseball umpire, once obstruction is called the ball is still live.
When the play is complete a judgment is made based on the obstruction
called. If the home plate umpire makes an out call then the runner is out.
So the home plate umpire immediate looked at the 3rd base umpire to
confirm his ruling.
In the umpires judgment if the runner would have scored without the obstruction
the runner is awarded the extra base. If on the other hand the runner is out by a
mile, the umpires would call an out on the runner (This happened to Miguel Tejada
in Boston during the playoffs a few years back).
In last nights play, the runner thrown out at the plate was a close call, so the obstruction
obviously hindered the runner from scoring legitimately. In the umpires judgment
if the obstruction had not occurred the runner would have scored.
The umpires absolutely made the correct call.
Ranchemp.
(1,991 posts)a throw he shouldn't have made, every player, from little league to major league, knows that you don't throw to third with 2 out, bottom of the 9th, tie game, the chances of the ball getting away because of a shitty throw or the runner sliding can cost you the game.
Salty should have held on to the ball, Pete Kozma was coming up and he hadn't been hitting well at all.
Skeeter Barnes
(994 posts)You do remember all the other umps overruling the call at second base in a previous game, right? When Kozma clearly dropped the ball, the other umps were watching and they did the right thing by overruling the second base umpire. Should they not have been watching that play? Should they have only watched what was happening at their own base? Did you criticize them for looking at the play at second base and overruling a bad call?
You keep going back to the play at the plate as if it means something but it doesn't. It might as well have never happened. He tagged a runner that was already awarded home plate. Do you seriously not understand that or are you that much of a homer that you refuse to acknowledge what actually happened?
And the claims of the umpire being biased is bush league whining. You know what threw the game? Salty chucking the ball into left field.
Ranchemp.

(9,740 posts)when you get to playoffs, TBS is tolerable, but Fox Network TV is horrible.
Maybe for the playoffs if they switched between the two sets of local Fox Sports Network announcers it would be more entertaining. In this case the Red Sox local guys in Boston and the Fox Sports Missouri local guys in St Louis.

I know mark cuban mostly from a howard stern interview. The Shark Tank show is usually moderately interesting. He owns a basketball team I think.
what I do know from his stern appearance is that he runs a non profit that pays bills for fallen and wounded veterans. Out of his pocket full of billions. 'how much does that cost?', asks stern. 'I dont know. I dont care. Its the right thing to do', replies cuban.
Cuban could be the grand poobah teabagger for all I care, if he is spending his billions on our troops, he gets some of my gratitude.
you know if either party, any party, would really embrace veterans issues and make it number one job to help us first, they would dominate the political scene for the next decade.

(24,324 posts)I posted above about last night's game.
Now I have another fux game to look forward to tonight..with...NO GAME.. just tobacco chewing close ups.
I LOVE baseball, and I know baseball pretty darn well. I do not watch a lot major league baseball during the season but I DO watch the post season.
I prefer minor league ball and I am fortunate enough to have 5 minor league teams within 35- 90 minutes - 3 triple-A - Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo, and 2 Short Season A teams - Batavia Muckdogs('MY team') and Auburn Doubledays - . PLUS a summer college league 20 minutes away.
When I go to a game I WATCH EVERYTHING-- I don't even want people talking to me. A little obsessive, maybe, but... that's me.
So to have to watch these fuck wads at fox try to broadcast a game is... just really painful. They just have no idea at all what is happening during a game. Clueless.
Most people may not notice, but I do. They see only white light coming through, but I see the darker shades.

(2,012 posts)Same godawful hypocrisy FoxNews spews every day. But our local Fox channel carries some of Fox Sports like the WS and generally does a good job. It's about our best local nightly news channel; obviously Rupert owns it but they tell me FoxNews has no control over them, and they do not broadcast any of those repulsive FOX shows.
We are fortunate that the Rockies are shown on ROOT cable. The announcers are old MLB players, do a great job, and I learn something almost every game. Our big problem, however, is that the Rockies radio broadcast is on KOA, a powerful station that carries the worst of the rightwingers, including Limbaugh and local blowhards. The radio announcer is great though and seldom does interviews with other sportspersons.
