It has a fair claim to be the ugliest philosophy the postwar world has produced. Selfishness, it contends, is good, altruism evil, empathy and compassion are irrational and destructive. The poor deserve to die; the rich deserve unmediated power. It has already been tested, and has failed spectacularly and catastrophically. Yet the belief system constructed by Ayn Rand, who died 30 years ago today, has never been more popular or influential.

Of course, their "love" of Jesus contrasts badly with the way that they actually follow him ... so maybe it's not so much of a surprise ...

(1,819 posts)Someone gave them a synopsis of the book and they have pretended that they've read it so they can pretend they have some intelligence. And for those that may have read it I am doubtful that they have fully comprehended what they were reading.
Like most things the conservative knuckle draggers are being lead around like sheep so they can live in some fairy tale land and believe that they are intellectuals because they happen to agree with some whacko nut job that wrote a book.
