I'm reading a lot about how advertisers are claiming their ads on Limbaugh....

...are being "run by mistake".

Many advertisers claim they are informing stations to stop unauthorized commercial spots on Limbaugh's show.

It's just a theory, but I wonder if stations are running these spots free so it won't appear that there's a problem with the boycott. It'd sound pretty pathetic if Rush had to blowhardt for twenty minutes or more at a time. On AM radio, seven minutes is a lifetime without a commercial break.

I imagine he has to go to the bathroom to take a limbaugh and eat more oxys at least every 10 minutes.

Many radio advertisers buy in bulk these days...vast numbers of commercials on a variety of stations at a very low rate. They buy a "cluster"...a group of stations that have many different formats. In many instances to get the low rate the advertiser will buy time on stations they don't want, including many that air rushbo's swill fest. Thus, yes, advertisers can get their commercials stuck in rushbo's show and not know it...simply cause they bought a "run of schedule" plan that allows the broadcaster or network to put the spot anywhere they wish. It's only when they specificly direct the network or station not to put their spot in a time slot that the spots won't air during rushbo's "show".

Just a bunch of PSA's. Selective service, anti-smoking, etc. I don't imagine they get paid for those. I think they are being subsidized by someone.

Radio advertising which used to rival local newspapers is now a "throw away"...especially AM stations. Radio's fallen behind local cable TV and now the internet. Many of the bread and butter "mom and pop" stores that used to be the lifeblood of radio...especially local AM...have been "Wal-marted" out of business and the large corporates prefer to go with television where there's a wide range of demographics vs. radio that has only a limited number. AM radio relies on mostly elderly white males as its last stand...why hate radio has done so well. These days radio stations are lucky to be able to fill their morning drive 6am-10am with paying spots...and some also do well in afternoon drive (3-6pm). The rest of the time most commercials you hear are "bonused" or "run of schedule"...and if there aren't spots to run, then you'll hear PSAs.

Advertisers can buy ads that are run on the station when the station wants to run the ad for a lower rate. Clear Channel can move some of these ads to run on the limbaugh show but they are earning a significantly lower rate. These advertisers can object and force Clear Channel not to show their ads on the Limbaugh show. Fox News used to show run of schedule ads on the Beck show until these advertisers objected.

In network talk radio you have a clock which is followed very closely. Every break is pre-determined and run on an exact time. If he is missing ads they will fill it with public service announcements or PIs (Paid inquiries.)
