Found this under a friend's FB post about the ACA. WTF!
Ummm, right. ------>
And no, the guy's not a billionaire nor does he have 200 people in his family to cover.
P.S. No, I don't believe him but this is the kind of stuff that people are posting as facts.

(1,151 posts)"Cadillac" plan tax starts at $23k/family. Or $31k/family for some professions (e.g. firefighters) - I have to believe that there are plans in that amount if it's included in the ACA.

(27,315 posts)if it is for one person, I think it is difficult to believe.
Now, if we are talking about a family, above 50, smoking, it seems possible (expensive certainly, but in the realm of possible). It depends also whether it is a bronze, silver, or golden plan.
3200/12= 2600 (if you allow a tripling of price for age, for example) it would bring the family premium to $800.
Obviously, this person may qualify for some subsidies and may be find better by shopping around, but it is not totally outside of the realm of possible,
So, I would not tell the person he is lying. I would try to figure out the parameters of the premium.

(1,151 posts)Not that it's the ACA's fault, and this guy probably doesn't have to get a cadillac plan. He may be lying but there are plans that expensive.
Lex
(34,108 posts)and use it, unless he just completely made it up, which is also possible.

(570 posts)$32,000 sounds like a very tall tale, but it doesn't meant that there isn't sticker shock for some. For example, in some states there is up to a $1,500/month additional charge to cover gastric bypass surgery.

One of my best friends from high school is a gun toting rabid Libertarian.
I love him, but muted his feed.

(32,640 posts)There were insurance companies telling people that in order to stay insured for pre-existing conditions, they would have to renew before the ACA went into effect at much, much higher prices, or be dropped immediately (leaving them without coverage for 6 months.)
Which may be why he's blaming his insurance company's piracy on Obama.
