1. It was so sad that those two kids were fatherless. I always remember John's salute...

I think he was too young to be put up to doing that. He was pushed forward and expected to perform, on a day when everyone around him was highly emotional and his father was gone.

So.... powerful imagery, but I think it was a bit much to expect of a three year old. He did well, though, poor kid.

He was a "good kid." He did what his mother wanted him to do.

If he'd married Darryl Hannah and followed his dream of getting into show business, acting, directing, that kind of thing, he'd probably still be alive today.

and people sure did love Jackie!

They still do. While a bunch of us were registering voters during the 2008 campaign, including Caroline, a teenaged girl came up and told her that she had photos of Jackie in her room. Caroline was very sweet but truly surprised that the girl had decorated her room with photos of a woman in her grandmother's generation. Jackie made such an impression! Hope she was a good mother - I remember she moved the kids overseas so that they were more protected. Maybe with JFK's Hollywood antics, she had a thing about the acting life.

John Jr.'s third birthday was in the days right after Nov. 22 and she went ahead with his birthday party as planned, within days of the funeral. Her reasoning was that no matter what happened you don't deprive a 3-year-old of his birthday party.

Poor little munchkin. Both those kids were so young! At that age where they are so adorable.
