The first "live" death I remember seeing was Budd Dwyer. Nightmares for months.

Although IIRC the Bobby Kennedy murder happened live, too.

I was watching KNBC in L.A. that night. Tom Brokaw was the local anchor there. We watched.

but I don't recall the actual shooting being on live camera. Certainly the immediate aftermath in the building had live coverage.

This is weird that you ask this question. I was born in '62 and do not recall Ruby killing LHO but my mother tells that story more than I ever here her talk about the JFK shooting. She saw it live on TV and I can tell it freaked her out forever. She tells me she was ironing clothes and that I was at her knees in the living room and she saw it happen. Another incident my mother told me about at around the same time was of coming home from work and my father holding me in his arms screaming at the TV "Stop the godamn fight! Stop the godamn fight!" A boxer killed another boxer by standing his collapsed body against the ropes and beating him to death.

Yeah, umm so TV...I try not to watch too much.

Griffith got Paret up on the ropes and just battered him mercilessly with punches to the head.

Emile Griffith was gay, and Benny Paret insulted and taunted him and called him "maricón" before the fight. Griffith said of the fight later: "When I had him in the corner in the 12th round … I was very angry in the ring. Nobody ever called me a faggot."

In contrast take a look at the infamous Panama Lewis cheating incident with Billy Collins and Luis Resto. Lewis cheated by taking out padding on Resto's glove and by soaking Resto's wraps/bandages in plaster of Paris. Collins suffered permanent eye damage and never fought again. He died in an auto accident a few months later; many believe that was suicide.

Lewis should have spent a lot longer time in prison than he did.

At least on American television.

BTW, Emile Griffith was tormented by that death for the rest of his life.

Same with Ray Mancini with Duk Koo Kim in 1982. He was never the same.
