But, that's just me and my mood.
What's HOT this year if you are into the excitement? Kid's hot toy, Parents...what you're hoping to score ...even if it's small item.
IOWDS what's HOT THIS YEAR? I'm not getting any clues and don't need anything .....but, I like to keep up with what's current that I don't know about.
What do DU'ers have on their Wish List...if you are doing early Holiday Deal Shopping?

(50,559 posts)Black Friday All Month sales, which tons of retailers have had, kinda ruin the anticipation of it.

(45,358 posts)I do get the feeling that the term, "Black Friday" is becoming a bit toxic this year with the general public. Pair that with WalMart's woes and it feels like something is about to give.

(4,533 posts)several years ago I read a column from a long time newspaper editor that every holiday season there are reports of sales up, sales down and sales the same.
Since then I have noticed it's still true. Over time you will read all 3 results.

(14,910 posts)The whole Black Friday thing turns my stomach.
In our family, the young-ins are all in their mid-thirties. We have one toddler in the family and one teen. Most of us already have everything we would need anyhow.
I look forward to our hand made holiday gift giving!
I used to do a lot of that...before the "China Invasion."

(32,064 posts)I will buy gift cards for family/friends so they can buy what they want during the sales or use them for restaurant meals (and it gives me triple points at the grocery where I buy them).
My kids are school-aged and into gaming - I think Playstation and Nintendo XBox both have new offerings this season. We tend to wait a bit after new systems come out so there is actually only one we are buying this year and it's a little older. They want the new games, new scooters, but that's about it.
I'll probably check out on-line sales next Monday to look for games/accessories.

(30,947 posts)There was a toy that my grandson wanted at Toys 'R Us. So I got up at 5 am and stood in line at the store. It was a mad house. I was lucky enough to get the last one available.

That was the only time...and wouldn't do it again. But, it did make him happy even though he thought SANTA brought it to him. I've never told him the "details."
It was good for that time.

(2,347 posts)Actually working in a big box retailer now, although that will end shortly. But I'll get to see it from the other side of the counter this year. It'll be interesting, if nothing else. I wasn't aware of this whole disturbing subculture that seems to have grown up around this Wal-Mart created frenzy.
I am, I have to say, completely and utterly disgusted with the customers, who think nothing of standing in front of the folks who will be forced to work Thanksgiving day and asking when the store will be open so that they can feed their shopping addiction. They are, one and all, POS's. I say that completely without reservation.
I had thought there might be hope for perhaps ending this idiocy, but there isn't. The shamelessness with which these people trample on what was once a completely off-limits holiday is spectacularly amoral. If anything, it will only get worse.

(771 posts)And I'm a sucker for any TV bigger and bigger each year...
Truth be told good TV deals can be had for the savvy shopper practically year round.
Black Friday/Thursday, even the best TV deals have a slight catch - the models with the best deals, off brand TV's, isn't that they are off brand because some 'name' brands have good prices as well. It's that the models on sale are black Friday specific, and are altered 'down' with features from same-model number sets - they are tweaked and are different as sold from say those sold a couple months ago - even with near identical model numbers.
SO - say hello to football and family, no to going out Thanksgiving day for me.

(84,711 posts)and that you can get the same thing for a few dollars more...but not enough to stand waiting or camping out for hours before the doors open.
The Mainstream Media seems to love the stories about all of us "Peasants" out there camped out and groveling for stuff for a few bucks off. They laugh as they Promote It.
It's gotten so disgusting that I think that many folks are waking up to the scam.
For others it's a "Happening" where they can socialize in our "minimalist world" where being "Part of Something" is worth more than being "ALONE."
It's sad.
