Fortunately, I'm not in Bismarck, ND (above).
But, it is very cold, threatening pipes freezing, etc.
Outside, it is beautiful a frozen winter wonderland.
What's up around the country? Are you freezing?

(60,010 posts)Pushing 80 this am, I had to turn on A/C, humid as could be.
Then the rain band moved thru, and temps dropped like a rock.
I have the heat on now.
Tomorrow's high....47.
Certainly nothing worth mentioning compared to most of the country,
but
I tend to appreciate "normal" seasons when the temps are consistent from week to week, not to mention day to day.

(2,016 posts)It is definitely here. Temps down to 14F (i know its not that big of a deal for for the Northern tier), but natural gas is beau-coup expensive in my neck of the woods.
Cool thing tho, the desert rabbits (cottontails) are out in full force. Always makes me laugh!!
I've got 9 or 10 feeding in the backyard. And the coyotes haven't noticed. Silly wildlife...

(111,277 posts)It snowed most of the day yesterday, a warning for everybody on the other side of the Rockies to brace themselves. We get three inches of snow, they get clobbered.
We're staying in the double digits at night, 11F predicted toward morning, so we're still relatively balmy in the high desert.

(40,416 posts)Today, it's fucking cold. Going to be in low single digits at night this week, unusual for Michigan this time of year. We've got those wonderful lakes to keep us warm. Then January hits and temps plunge.
I am in very rural West Michigan. Mostly dirt roads here, actually great in the winter as long as they're plowed, which they usually are. I don't mind the cold. What I dread is big snow. It traps me for days until I can get plowed out. Stressful if I don't have enough food, or power goes out.
No power? No heat! No running water! No nothing except for possibly burning the furniture in the fireplace to keep from freezing.

Did you get your fridge, longship?
longship
(40,416 posts)It's been renovated so it's comfortable. But yes, it's kind of old time. Out here in the country, it's water wells instead of city water. When the power goes out, the pump doesn't work. Thankfully the power company here is very good at getting things fixed.
Fridge was delivered Wed. They thankfully took the old one with them. It was heavier that two dead preachers.
It's nice to be able to cook again.

(39,961 posts)but we had a freak blast of arctic blow through last week. I'd settle for something consistent. I kind of like cold weather and snow. You know where we are though, MS delta on the Gulf Coast so cold weather is a joy and relief from oppressive freaking heat and humidity.
polly7
(20,582 posts)but it's cooold here today. -30C, -39C with the wind chill. This is the first night my dog wanted to cut our run short, poor guy. He's part Great Pyrenees and has a downy undercoat but still doesn't care for it much. Of course he's used to being inside a lot lately, so that doesn't help him with it at all.

Sorry it's rough for you guys, and a Great Pyranees is a fur bundle (great dogs, though). Send it to us, PLEASE. We got 25F for about 10 seconds. Now it's hot as hell again.

(20,582 posts)I actually love the snow and cold and really do feel for those who have high temps and humidity all the time. Of course, when I get old that may sound like heaven! But come on up - mi casa es su casa! I've even got some spare Haley Hansons (the unofficial uniform for women, men, children and even babies alike in the winter here. You'd think we were a bunch of weirdo's if you saw us all down at the rink on Sunday mornings for our weekly pancake breakfast - jeans, and our one piece Haley's with no tops - cause those things are hot!)
Not yet. It's 36 here in suburban Houston. Wind makes it feel colder. Might get down to 32 later tonight - maybe not.

(5,810 posts)So hot we had the A/C going today to help get rid of the humidity and cool this place down a little. I can't believe it's December and I am still wearing shorts and tee shirts. We had a cool snap last week, but it didn't last long. Someone who lives a few blocks from me has banana plants in their front yard and those got nipped by the cooler weather. But today was ridiculous. Warm, muggy day. It's a buzz kill to the holiday spirit around here!!

(86,647 posts)at 7,000ft it's -20F and got all the way up to 0F this afternoon... it was even colder the last two nights. I'm not even thinking of starting up the vehicle until it's at least +10F... they just don't like to start in the cold no matter how much alcohol you add to the tank. And it's been snowing but I could see the moon through the cloud earlier when I went out for a stroll. Hope we get back up above 0F during the day soon, I don't like to ski down to town when it's this cold and I need to get my mail.
Edited to add: Looks like it might be subsiding in the next couple days, maybe...
