Anthony Weiner is in talks for an NYC radio program, say insiders, on either WOR or WABC

He can’t embarrass himself with crotch shots on the radio. Confidenti@l has learned exclusively that disgraced mayoral wannabe and Twitter enthusiast Anthony Weiner is in talks to host a radio show. Sources close to the deal tell us Weiner is mulling an offer to host an hour-long chat show on either WOR or WABC radio, focusing on local politics.

“We’re looking at a lot of people,” says WABC operations manager Tony Mascaro, denying an offer has been made to Weiner.

Mascaro also said the station’s primary focus is filling the noon-3 p.m. void it will have in January when Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity leave for WOR.

WOR didn’t return our request for comment.

WABC as you may know is currently the flagship station for Cumulus Media Networks' right wing radio hosts Don Imus, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and Michael Savage. But effective 1/1/14 this is the new WABC schedule that is essentially the Cumulus master talk schedule:

6am-10am: Imus (but most Cumulus East Coast stations have local shows during this time)
10am-12pm: Geraldo Rivera (WABC only), and most Cumulus stations fill this timeslot with local shows anyway
12pm-3pm: Dennis Miller replaces Rush (it's said Dennis shifted to the nutty right after 9/11 and wasn't known to be a right winger before then)
3pm-6pm: Michael Savage replaces Insannity
6pm-9pm: Mark Levin stays here
9pm-1am: John Batchelor gets all his 4 hours back on WABC after Savage moved to 9pm ET in Oct. 2012 and signed with Cumulus. As a compromise, WABC used to have Savage 9-11 then Batchelor 11-1. Batchelor's show may be right-leaning, but it's actually rather tolerable and non-vitriolic. And it has many great non-political segments on science and history and the humanities.
1am-5am: Red Eye Radio (based out of WBAP Dallas)

And the WOR lineup right now is mostly either local or third-rate syndicated shows.

6am-10am: John Gambling, who is retiring this year. This ends an era of the Gambling family having the morning slot on WOR since the mid-1920s, as Gambling's father and grandfather (also named John Gambling) preceded the current John Gambling in the WOR morning show.

I read an account on another message board that says Gambling suggests Weiner will be at WOR. Assuming Weiner hosts only 1 hour show, I think Weiner would get the 9am-10am slot after whoever replaces J. Gambling.

10am-12pm: Mark Simone, another NY radio veteran, would most likely keep his show

Then Rush Limbaugh will follow noon to 3. His show would replace:
12pm-2pm: Joan Hamburg, non-political entertainment/lifestyle host
2pm-4pm: Dave Ramsey, syndicated financial advice (with a conservative Christian spin)

Then Sean Hannity is 3-6, replacing Ramsey and the current 4pm-6pm host Rita Cosby (wow she's reduced to an obscure radio show after her times at Fox News and MSNBC?)

Don't know if WOR will change its current evening schedule:
6pm-9pm: Andy Dean (former contestant on The Apprentice did become a right wing syndicated radio host)
9pm-11pm: John & Ken (shock jocks out of KFI in LA - I think this is just a replay of their LA show)
11pm-1am: Clyde Lewis (conspiracy theory talk - even a Sandy Hook truther)
1am-5am: Coast to Coast AM

So Anthony Weiner will be the token liberal host on Clear Channel's NYC talk station. In summer 2012, Clear Channel bought the 80+ year old station from Buckley Broadcasting. Yep you read that right, Clear Channel has officially butchered a piece of American radio history.

there isn't much, if any. Sponsoring legislation is boring, hard, slogging work, 99 times out of a hundred. Every now and again there are dramatic bills, but most just incrementally move a goalpost or two.

So, Anthony's strong suit was never really as a lawmaker. He couldn't be bothered to do that dull shit. Where he excelled was as an advocate. He was, for a brief and shining moment, the 21st Century's Mouth That Roared. He could go on TV and pull a "wet hen" and completely obliterate and eviscerate his sparring partner(s) with clever repartee and stinging rebukes. No one did "advocacy" better.

I think radio is an excellent fit for him--he can even work up "bumps" and assorted sound transitions that obliquely reference his past (e.g. "Take a picture of THIS&quot .

The guy is too young to slink away. He--and his penis--have been in the public eye. This'll be another chapter for him, if he can pull it off--and it will probably be the most useful application of his exhortative talents.
