Sea World dissed by Joan Jett.

Joan Jett to SeaWorld: Stop playing 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll'

The list of musicians protesting SeaWorld Orlando practices continues to grow. PETA says that rocker Joan Jett sent a letter to SeaWorld president Jim Atchison asking that her hit "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" be removed from the theme park's "Shamu Rocks" killer-whale show.

The recent "Blackfish" documentary, which is critical of the park's treament of orca whales, played a role her request.

"I'm among the millions who saw 'Blackfish' and am sickened that my music was blasted without my permission at sound-sensitive marine mammals," the letter says.

Jett calls for the park to release the animals to coastal sanctuaries. "This move would show that your company is truly family-friendly," the letter says.

when I was 9 years old.

A couple years later, and throughout my teen years, it was Joan Jett. She's really a nice person and her band and road crew were very nice too. She actually reads fan letters and oh, did I pour my heart out to her when I was being bullied in school. Next thing I knew, any Joan Jett concert I went to, either she, or her road crew, made sure I was safe from the crowds when they got rowdy. I was just a kid going to see Joan Jett play in 21 and older bars. They were my "safe" place to look forward to when I wasn't in school being beat up and stuffed in lockers.

Luckily, my aunt begged and pleaded with the first club manager to let me in. I was 16 years old and the bar was 21 and older. I met her the first time there and she talked to me about what I had written her. She is amazing to sit down and talk to.

After that, at every other concert I went to of hers, the band and/or the road crew took me in and the club managers didn't question the band about a kid hanging out with them, lol. Even with the bullying in school, those turned out to be the best years of my life, ever. I had a "safe" place to go. Those are the greatest memories ever.

You think Joan Jett ever was exploited because of her "shapely figure" and not her raw talent?

Joan Jett has in the past supported PETA, but she backs off when they go off the rails like they usually do. A seal clubbing venture in a video game called WoW to highlight how killing is cultural? In a video game? http://apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2009/04/peta-protests-on-world-of-warcraft-i-am.html

PETA isn't a Democratic organization.

Supporting the growing of organic vegetables and helping others in your area learn about growing gardens isn't a purely Democratic goal, either, it's a goal of everyone that recognizes ecology. Neither is supporting your local animal shelter D-R-I or anything else.

PETA is a woo organization that euthanizes animals that were previously pets because they do not believe that people should have pets. Membership has dropped in droves because of their attitude.

She's always been wonderfully independent and does her own thing. I think some in this thread are showing that they have affiliations because they seek out "terrorist groups" to discredit anything associated with such groups. PETA is one of the best known for for "environmental terrorism". Except that isn't what PETA does - they are a PR campaign to make environmental concerns seem like nuttery.

Environmental terrorists, of course, are really people that have farms that aren't corporate owned, grow organic, and protest when Monsanto sues their neighbor when Monsanto seeds get into their crops, then claims it was intentional.

PETA is a fabricated group of nuts wanting to foment nuts so that legitimate environmental concerns are dismissed as PETA type bullshit.

Singers don't get royalties off radio stations playing their songs. I don't think MTV paid royalties either. There was a Supreme Court case about this in the early 20th Century, and the decision at the time helped local radio stations survive the threats from then much-larger record companies. There are special rules for television shows using a song or performing a tune, but those are reproduction rights that were negotiated by writers' unions.

The Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests’ decision to ban dolphin captivity within India has been making waves around the world. The unprecedented decision is particularly significant because it reflects an increasing global understanding that dolphins deserve better protections based on who – rather than what – they are.

The decision, outlined in a circular released by the Central Zoo Authority, states that because dolphins are by nature “highly intelligent and sensitive,” they ought to be seen as “nonhuman persons” and should have “their own specific rights.” It says that it is “morally unacceptable to keep them captive for entertainment purposes.”

I have not tried to play them, because I am sure the heat messed up the vinyl, but I have all of them on cassette, from when cassettes were popular, and now on CD. Up until Up Your Alley, all of my Joan Jet albums were signed, one album per concert I went to until they were all signed. After that, she started signing club posters and set lists for me. I went to see her so much when I was a teenager (in 21 and old bars, no less) that I lost count of how many times I had seen her. I miss being able to go to her concerts, because she is way better live than on the records. Most bands are the opposite and suck live compared to their recordings.

I'm so glad those albums did not burn though. I was sure they did, until I went and looked. Sure enough, everything around them including the outsides of the box they were in, had burned. The box they were in was singed, but packed to tightly to let enough air in to burn the records inside, apparently. At least that was the theory I was given.

let me know if that changes.

I can only think of one member, ever, who I was happy to see no longer allowed to participate.

I am fascinated by the few who seem to want to see me gone. One of them has themselves left, apparently. Make that two.

You would be missed if you ever were no longer a member here. I don't expect the feeling to be mutual, but I wish it was.

E Pluribus Unum, and all that.

pretending to be someone else. then claiming it was your "friend" who sent the alert.

and I asked my question a year ago, so my question comes first.

107. again, what about your self-alert which you won't deny but won't acknowledge

it's well known around here.

anyone who responds to you with "cjeekdgg" is onto you because "cjeekdgg" is how my name was spelled in the alert sent from your account --an alert you denied writing, but we all saw it since it was sent to the hosts' group as an off-topic alert.

The Shamu Rocks show was excellent. Much better than their corny One Ocean show.

In fact I'm headed there this weekend for their Christmas celebration.

Only thing I've seen there are super talented whales, eco-friendly messages for the children, and injured manatees/ sea turtles recuperating to be released in the wild.

Nope not a single drop of blood to be found...

65. Do you know how they "train" the orca to do tricks for the audience?
Tue Dec 10, 2013, 08:24 PM
Dec 2013

This is how they do it:

Trainers don't have to do anything because the older, more knowledgeable orca slaves "teach" the young uns the ropes.

Newly kidnapped young orcas, who of course are severely traumatized after being ripped from their families, don't just voluntarily start performing. So, the punishment for refusing to perform is that the entire group of orcas at Sea World is denied food. The older ones know what's going on. They know they will not get food if the new orcas don't perform. So they turn on the younger ones, biting and attacking them until the young ones get the message and, you got it, start jumping up and down for you cretins in the audience. I hope you are so proud to be sponsoring this barbaric BLOOD SPORT. The CNN documentary goes into great detail about this process. Scars from attacks are on quite visible on the slaves bodies. I'm sure those babies bled plenty before they were forced into compliance. Happy?

So much so I'm renewing my annual membership like I do every year.

Contributing to the health of the worlds oceans just makes me feel good, ya know?

Sry but I don't fall for the PETA storyline and yellow journalism.

Combating animal abuse can be arduous with so many either apathetic or outright cruel human beings. Intelligent, social, giant creatures in a pool, doing tricks and dying young, so appalling.

And there are so many stupid people who care nothing about the suffering of their sentient orca and dolphin slave "entertainers." Same horrors go on against elephants in circuses. But the ignoramuses only care about getting a laugh.

wow. does that apply to parenting too?

tell us about the eco friendly messages of making dolphins and whales perform for their food in front of loud, cheering audiences?

sounds more like eco-ploitation.

After seeing the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade South Dakota float, which was completely focused on tourism, I can't see why the ranchers were up in arms about her being on it, however.

Alas, I couldn't figure out which band member she was on the float she was moved to...

She used to play multiple shows here in NC in bars and clubs when she was on tour back then. She's tops in my book, the best.

She has a new album out called Unvarnished. I got it and have been listening to it almost nonstop since I got it.
