(31,170 posts)There are few politicians that I truly admire, post presidency Cater is one of them. He could have had a nice easy life, but he is out there working hard for what he believes in...and it's nice to see those values in the younger generations of his family.

(31,170 posts)But the Carters have been involved in so many service projects, global and domestic, that I'm not surprised to see it in their grandchildren.

(11,001 posts)Gov of Georgia was questioned about where his loyalties would be with the candidacy of Carter. He made it clear that even though he works well with Gov. Deal for the people of Georgia, make no mistake that his support will be with the Democrat. He made also made it clear that he is a true Democrat. It was beautiful to hear.

The Carter's have been a positive thing for America, but they do not get the recognition they deserve.
I was young when Carter lost to Reagan, but I knew then that something was wrong with this country when the people made that choice.

who are Jimmy and Roslyn's children, and who are their grandchildren.
I remember Jimmy had a sister that died, and a brother that got himself in the news a lot....my, how long ago that was.
Love the Carters, all of 'em....

(24,721 posts)I didn't know their relationship, either, but it turns out they are cousins:
Jason Carter's father, Jack Carter, staged an unsuccessful 2006 run for the U.S. Senate in Nevada, ultimately losing to then-Sen. John Ensign, a Republican.

(847 posts)Lillian Gordy Carter.
From wiki:
While she theoretically retired from nursing in 1925, in reality she worked as what was then called a nurse practitioner both for the hundreds of employees back in her husband's businesses and for the members of Plains community. While a religious woman, Carter was not a regular attender of church services. After some sisters at the local church organized a mission trip to Africa, Carter became upset saying that there was plenty to be done in the US before traveling to another country. She coordinated her own Bible study at home on Sunday mornings while the rest of the family attended church.
She also served in the Peace Corps in India.

(74 posts)I was so impressed! Articulate, personable and passionate, with a reasonable progressive agenda that could very well appeal to Georgia Republicans. It's going to be tough, although he pointed out that Obama lost Georgia by one of the narrowest margins among all the red states. Since he has chosen not to resign his state legislative post after deciding to run, he cannot campaign for the first three months of 2014 when the legislature will be in session, so early fundraising is critical. Also, national donors with the big bucks will begin to support him if there is evidence of early support in Georgia.
