Updated to add this lovely pic:
and these:
McCain & Gaddafi
And who's this? Why, it's Gerald Ford shaking hands with communist dictator Leonid Brezhnev!
**********************
Dwight Eisenhower with Francisco Franco
Leonid Brezhnev sweet-talks Richard Nixon
Donald Rumsfeld and Saddam Hussein
Dwight Eisenhower with Nikita Khruschev
Henry Kissinger and Augusto Pinochet
George H.W. Bush with Manuel Noriega
It's Nelson Mandela's funeral
Fidel Castro supported Mandela.
Ronald Reagan opposed Mandela.
If, hypothetically, both men had attended, it would have been appropriate to shake Fidel's hand, but not Ronnie's.

(37,161 posts)They were anticommunist, and shared the RWers expansive view of what constitutes "communism", so they were A-OK with those dictators. Hell, with Pinochet, Kissinger backed his becoming one.

(46,752 posts)As affectionate as latin american men can be with one another when they greet each other, there is also a machismo issue. I don't really think that pose with Bush is very masculine for Noriega. It says a lot, not only that Noriega is sitting with hands clasped and legs crossed, but that Bush is in a mauling male pose.
The body language says quite a bit.

(44,228 posts)here's the real pic of Bush and Noriega. Bush is in exactly the same position, with same facial expression, and there's lots of room to insert another person.

(46,752 posts)The original poster should make the correction because there's all kinds of wrong with the photoshopped one.

It's called diplomacy, and only a mouth-breather doesn't quite 'get' it.
