Rebuttal to selfie-gate

Call Me When Obama Shoots Someone in the Face

Oh, for Christ's sake:

Conservative commentators are blasting President Obama after the president appeared to take a "selfie" at the memorial service for South African leader Nelson Mandela on Tuesday.

Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron were spotted leaning in to look at the cellphone of Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt. First lady Michelle Obama, seated to the president's left, is looking elsewhere.

"Thank you Mrs. Obama for knowing how to behave at a funeral," tweeted RedState.com's Erick

Here's my rebuttal:

2. We should not make light of self-gate. This will likely result in Obama's impeachment

and removal from office.

He should have known better.

3. And how do they know it wasn't the three of them watching something on the camera?

First, the outrage is absurd. Second, it's conjecture. It could just as easily be "Oh, look at this wonderful photo I made with Mandela when I saw him last!"

I swear, I am in outrage burnout.

4. First of all, it wasn't a funeral

It was a memorial service ... in a giant soccer stadium. And it seemed pretty raucous (or festive) to me. One report says "the atmosphere was celebratory." There were thousands of people from all walks of life.

Second, what about the PMs of Denmark and Great Britain? Do they not get criticized?

Third, remember when Dick Cheney wore a parka and ski cap at Auschwitz? (Actually, even though it was a somber occasion and all the other world leaders were in suits and formal overcoats, who could blame the sickly (and mean) Cheney?).

Oh, why even bother with this stupid criticism.
