Republican Rep. Ted Yoho will host a gun training event on December 14, the anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre, according to a report in the Gainesville Sun.
The event was first announced through Yohos Facebook page. The Facebook invitation asks Yohos followers to Please bring your family and kids for an educational event on gun safety, purchasing firearms, legal requirements and safety standards while encouraging responsible firearm ownership.
Yohos spokesperson, Omar Raschid, told the Sun the event was not intended to coincide with the anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre. In a statement, Raschid said, The Congressmans prayers will certainly be with the victims and families of such an unspeakable tragedy. This event focuses on responsible firearm ownership and safety. Safety education is an integral part of responsible firearm ownership, and that is what the goal of this event is.
Yoho will be at the event, according to Raschid, to make opening remarks and answer questions.

Gun activists love to open their zippers over the bloodstained halls of an elementary school.

(6,960 posts)It is a crazy Repuglican thread.
Yet another example of how these Tea Party - Repuglicans are extremists and out to be as offensive as possible for the sole purpose of further inflaming their base.
Anyway, can the Sandy Hook tragedy be put into a box and labeled 'gun issue' ... so it cannot be a part of our general political dialogue?

(5,946 posts)These people have to be voted out of office. I know it is frustrating when you live in an area where people don't vote in local elections, but DU members have to get their families to the polls if they have to drag them there. Unless they are republican.

This "It's Florida" attitude is offensive.

Florida voted Obama the past two Presidential elections. Yes - we have some yokels representing some key districts. Where do you live whereby you are represented by only good, progressive Dems?

(5,946 posts)It is a country wide problem, we have to get people to vote them out. I live in the state of Christie and finally he is getting some press for his crappy ways but before the election you would have thought he was a saint.
My attitude to representatives are affected by the states they are in. I think some states have sme that are worse than others, Like Wisconsin right now. Good people, bad government.

(5,946 posts)It is still hard to get people to vote in non-presidential years unless they are getting these print out s from church or some other conservative group. My sister in North Carolina said she worked so hard for local candidates who all lost to the tea baggers that are destroying the state now - people would say well they vote for the president. It is very very hard, but we will never win unless we get out the vote all the time. I dragged my nieces to the polls, but not their idiot parents, I think that is the key. So many people are uninformed about local elections, it is disgusting. You even have to research school board elections because they control the education. I got my nieces to go because they are young mothers now and I told them they would determine their child's future. Gets them going, ha ha.
Yes, my local people are pretty much progressive, but I am lucky, not brilliant. The school board tea bagger got voted down, I don't know how that happened. don't know too many who voted in that election.
