8. I smoked for almost 30 years. Then I was told I had throat cancer. I quit smoking.

That was 16 years ago, so I've been told that now I'm officially cured. But after my surgery and a six-week course of radiation the best thing that came out of the whole deal ain't my health. It's the fact that my two now fully grown sons watched it happen and never smoked and never will.
