The ACA requires all policies to provide maternity benefits.

A pregnancy will cost the insurance company $10,000 - $15,000 -- if there are no complications.

Birth control pills cost the insurance company about $90 a year.

This is why you didn't hear a peep out of insurance companies when Obama mandated that they cover birth control payments.

Any questions?

to the point where any discussion of contraceptive use as contraception is almost forbidden, and instead it's centered more around women who need it for other medical applications.

We wouldn't want to encourage promiscuity, or interfere with God's special plan for your family, now would we?

I agree with you, we need to get rid of the current framework and start shouting this message from the rooftops.

They act like most of the voters are crazy dominionists like Santorum. In fact, very few -- even those who identify as devout Christians -- are nuts like Santorum. Almost all of them understand that we don't need to create a billion more unwanted children. Most of them understand that it is human nature -- God's plan if you will -- that people will have lots of sex even if they aren't prepared to raise a family properly. After all, God created those hormones, didn't He?

Most people understand that it is better to do family planning than to bring an unwanted child into a life of poverty. Yes, there are a few who escape that cycle, but the vast majority end up in miserable circumstances. And most people understand that the best way to eliminate abortions is to do better pregnancy planning.

So why do Dems cower in the corner on this subject? Whom are they trying not to offend?

News flash. Those Santorum-covered nut jobs were never going to vote for us anyway.

To rely on secondary reasons for making contraception affordable rather than the primary reason.

And the smarter ones are owned by t the Third-wayers / financial industry money. On top of that, Team Obama thinks they are pretty clever about this stuff, so the other Dems really can't get out there with the arguments that would be most effective because Obama would just undercut them.

The prisons and welfare rolls are full of people who were unwanted babies.

If we make every child a wanted child, society doesn't have to pay the economic costs for people who are just going to be a drain on society.
