RUSH LIMBAUGH MENTIONS DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, SORT OF.

I often listen to the Rush Limbaugh Show to hear what his latest easily-refuted lies are and marvel at the stupidity of listeners who believe what he tells them.

Today he was talking about the Pope's Apostolic Exhortation and, with his typical dishonesty, saying that the Pope is against capitalism. Rush said the Pope's comments are like something you would see at “Democrat” Underground.

If Rush or his followers would go to the original document ( http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium_en.html ) they would see that Pope Francis isn't against capitalism, rather he is against Republican-style capitalism and especially trickle-down economics.

The document contains 288 numbered items, which is about 287 more than Rush or his listeners are able or willing to process.

Many of these items deal with poverty and inequality. The Pope shows support for lots of things that Democrats are FOR, and Republicans are AGAINST. Among them:

* Fighting poverty and inequality.
* Women's rights.
* The environment.
* Saving endangered species.
* Helping the cities.
* Science.
* The common good.
* Unselfishness.
* A living wage.
* Full employment.
* Belief in reality, rather than ideas that don't work.
* Diversity.
* Peacemaking.
* Access to health care.
* Adequate food for all.
* Gun control.
* Paying one's fair share of taxes.

And finally, to really get under conservatives' skin:
* REVERENCE FOR THE TRUTH!

Not a huge fan of either, but still, I wish capitalism all the luck in the world, because they are really going to need it.

Don't believe me? Long live the Roman Empire! It will rule forever!! Huh? Oh, well then, long live the Carolingian Empire! It will reign forever!! No? Long live the Ottoman Empire...all right, not them either. Hapsburg? No. British? No. French? No. Bell system phone company? No. Soviet? No. MySpace? No.

Roman Catholicism? In embryonic form since the 1st c. In fact, the centuries are numbered according to the RC calendar.

The Church did not make a concerted effort to squelch homosexuality until the 13th c. And even then the effort was modest compared to what came out of the counter-reformation.

Of course the whole idea that progress is about individual rights is itself a modern concept. The idea that sexual orientation is part of ones identity was not really understood until the 19th c. Before that, it was simply a seen as a deviant behavior, one of many. Before the consolidation of royal power in the 1200s, sodomy was not seen as much different than fornication or a variety of other petty sins. Adultery was the one that was considered really bad, because it involved the violation of an oath. During the late Middle Ages and into early modernity, people saw the increasing hierarchical, patriarchal power structure as progressive. They equated rationality with nobility and masculinity, so any move in those directions were good things.

Obviously, I agree with the post-sexual revolution view, but history has to be understood by the values and norms of their time and place and not by ours.

or something like that? That quote about the "Democrat Underground" sounds like something you would hear on the Huckabee show.

"He" being the Pope. What he said in the interview doesn't matter, what matters is that the Pope was talking about HIM (Rush). The Pope wasn't of course but for Rush it is just self glorification.

Rush knows he's wrong. He must have had a lot of rejection in his childhood to spend so much time trying to get attention.

Is it true his new wife lives in a separate house? It's on their property, but separate? I heard that somewhere, but never heard it confirmed.
