For some reason, the First Amendment crowd is always in the position of explaining why some given government establishment of religion is a BIG HUGE HAIRY DEAL.
It's not like Christmas being a federal holiday is the end of the world! What is the harm in some city having a statue of Jesus? Why shouldn't the young Christians league get to meet in the school library in a town that is 99% Christian?
And so on.
Well, you got me. It isn't THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD.
Now, then... why would it be THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD for the government to follow an excruciatingly obvious basic principle of American governance?
See how that works?
What terrible calamity happens if the government does not put up a statue of Jesus?
Not letting Ida May Jones of 132 Main Street vote in the upcoming election will not decide the outcome. Even our very close elections are not decided by one vote. So why is it a big deal if the government decides for some improper reason that she can't vote?
And perhaps 99% of the town doesn't think she should vote. Why should the 1% get to tyrannize the majority by letting this woman vote?
BECAUSE IT INVOLVES A CORE PRINCIPLE OF OUR ENTIRE THEORY OF WHAT OUR NATION IS.
But it isn't the end of the world.
