The most bizarre murder motive ever heard from a prosecution, EVER,

Last edited Tue Dec 17, 2013, 06:12 PM - Edit history (2)

was offered in this, the 4th trial in 6 years of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito – which is still going on.

First, some undisputed facts (according to court records, not hate sites).

Dozens of pieces of physical evidence, including DNA and fingerprints in the room, and DNA inside and outside Meredith Kercher’s body, were collected the day after the murder. Every piece of evidence from Kercher’s bedroom was connected directly with a burglar named Rudy Guede, who was convicted of murder in a separate trial. (The infamous bra clasp was discovered six weeks later -- and caught on videotape being passed from dirty glove to dirty glove.)

Rudy Guede was friends with the young men in the downstairs apartment, including the victim’s boyfriend. Amanda had met him once when she visited the apartment with the victim. Raffaele had never met him.

There were four young women living in Amanda’s apartment: two Italians, Meredith, and Amanda. The women testified that Amanda hadn’t been scrubbing out the toilet with a scrub brush every time she used it, so they discussed how Meredith should diplomatically explain to her why this was necessary.

There was no testimony about any strife or arguments between Amanda and Meredith.

Amanda and Raffaele both admitted to smoking pot in Raffaele's cottage on the night Meredith died (in the girls' apartment).

Now comes the motive. Having given up on the “sex games gone wrong” theory the High Court asked them to investigate, the new prosecution offers the “poop” theory. Why did Amanda and Raffaele kill Meredith? Because Rudy Guede, while he was visiting, had left unflushed poop in the Italian roomates’ toilet. Meredith got so upset about Rudy – her boyfriend’s pal -- not flushing his poop in the other bathroom (not even Meredith’s bathroom) that Amanda and Raffaele and Rudy, in their marijuana induced rage, rose up and killed her.

If you’re re-reading this because it doesn’t make sense, don’t bother. Nothing about this trial has ever made sense.

Now that is some funny shit. I saw a guy in a marijuana induced rage once... Once he managed to get off the couch he tried to chuck the offending Twinkie at the wall, however it just stuck to his hand so he sat back down and ate it.

on charges of falsifying evidence in a previous trial. The prosecution of Amanda and Raffaele was probably a good diversion for him.

Since then, I think it's all about anti-Americanism and Italian face-saving.

That is just nuts.

of manslaughter for failing to warn the populace about the big 2009 earthquake?

The geologists had told the media that the little earthquakes they were having didn't mean a big one was necessarily coming, because the whole area was an earthquake zone and small earthquakes were typical.

Then there was a 9. something and the geologists were blamed for the deaths that occurred. They're in the process of appealing.

Kidding aside, it's disturbing to hear how far off the deep end a government can fall.

been exposed to double jeopardy -- that their four trials (so far) are really one very long, extended trial.

However, the appeals verdict that pronounced her innocent certainly seemed to be final -- they let her come home. So if she is convicted again, and that conviction is upheld by the High Court (yes, there will be at least a fifth trial), her lawyers will argue that this really was double jeopardy. After that, it will be mostly a political decision. First, whether Italy will try to extradite. And second, whether we will comply. Fortunately, Senator Maria Cantwell has been a strong advocate.

I'm more concerned about Raffaele, since he is in Italy attending the trial. He resisted pressure to falsely testify about Amanda -- and so spent four years in prison that he could have avoided by lying. He's at more risk now than Amanda, I think, because I doubt the U.S. will send her back.
