Worker At Amazon Warehouse Crushed To Death

A worker has died at what Amazon tells us is a third-party package sorting facility in the New York metropolitan area. AllThingsD reported the news:

The accident occurred on December 4 at an Amazon fulfillment center in Avenel, N.J., according to an incident report on the website of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“The victim was caught in between and crushed by equipment,” Leni Uddyback-Fortson, a regional director with the Department of Labor’s Office of Public Affairs told AllThingsD in an email. She declined to provide additional information, noting that OSHA was still investigating the accident.

The Avenel facility was previously believed to be a warehouse for Amazon's AmazonFresh grocery delivery facility. A company spokesperson tells Business Insider that is not the case.

Rather, it is a third party site that does some work for Amazon.

They own it privately and give their companies contracts with the corporation they control. It's a way to suck profit out of the company and basically cheat stockholders. I don't know if that is the case with Amazon.

Forklifts in general are dangerous. Look at all the big box stores that managed to splat even their own customers before they got the bejesus sued out of them and decided it was a good idea to use spotters.
