Most everyone knows the big named metropolis in every state, but what about the little guy who offers just as much excitement without all the hype and expectation?
Small cities scattered about this great nation can give you that urban feel without the hustle and bustle that can often overwhelm. But which cities should you see and which should you skip?
Real estate agency Movoto went out exploring to find the top 10 small cities deemed the most exciting in the U.S. Manhattan's little friend on the other side of the Hudson River, Hoboken, NJ, won the top spot on the list. The quaint little town once held the Guinness Book of World Record for having the most bars per square mile (impressive) and is home to Carlos Bakery, made famous by the TLC show Cake Boss.

This hip, young Garden State town taking top honors actually didnt surprise us that much, especially not resident New Jerseyite and Movoto marketing director Chris Kolmar, who personally attested to its worthiness once the results were finalized. He should know, having personally penned multiple posts about his home state for the Movoto Blog.
When we said Hoboken was young, we meant it. A full 46 percent of the places population is between 20 and 43 years of agethe largest such group in our top 10 by 3 percent margin over second-youngest San Marcos, TX. Hobokens youthful population seems to be getting its kicks mostly at bars and clubssuch as Maxwells, Bin 14, and 1 Republikwith the city posting the best overall score (third place) in nightlife out of any place in our top 10.
Hoboken also scored especially well (fourth overall) for the percentage of its restaurants that are fast food chainsa miniscule 2.5 percent. Instead of mass-produced drek, theyre dining on exciting fare like La Islas famed stuffed French toast, which even Bobby Flay couldnt top when the Cuban hotspot appeared on the Iron Chefs show Throwdown.
