Seriously. We now have a FEMALE AZ state Rep offering a bill allowing Employers to fire any female using contraception for Sexual reasons.
What's next? Some right-wing nut case going to offer a bill that would keep women from working? Think I've jump a gun? Answer me this-Would you imagine us seeing having these threads a couple years ago?
How much worse is this attack going to become?

(34,111 posts)but they are having so much fun putting us in our places that they decided to take the long route to that end.
Assholes.
My state is adding to our big anti abortion bill the new part that AZ has, the doctor doesn't have to tell you anything if there is something wrong with your pregnancy.
I hate these assholes with a passion.

(41,832 posts)Enjoyed this take on it: http://jezebel.com/5893011/law-will-allow-employers-to-fire-women-for-using-whore-pills
Yesterday, a Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed Republican Debbie Lesko's HB2625 by a vote of 6-2, which would allow an employer to request proof that a woman using insurance to buy birth control was being prescribed the birth control for reasons other than not wanting to get pregnant. It's all about freedom, she said, echoing everyone who thinks there's nothing ironic about claiming that a country that's "free" allows people's bosses to dictate what medical care is available to them through insurance. First amendment. The constitution. Rights of religious people to practice the treasured tenets of their faiths, the tenets that dictate that religious people get to tell everyone who is not of faith how they're supposed to live, and the freedom to have that faith enforced by law. Freedom®.
Further, Lesko states, with a straight face, that this bill is necessary because "we live in America; we don't live in the Soviet Union."

The test is pretty simple. Is the program so critical, its worth borrowing money from china to pay for it? And on that basis of course you get rid of Obamacare, thats the easy one. Planned Parenthood, were going to get rid of that. The subsidy for Amtrack, Id eliminate that. The National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities.

(1,727 posts)Taught elementary school in Las Vegas in the early 70's and had to wear a dress/skirt and nylons - no pants. Desks and tables were constantly running the nylons and getting up and down with the kids in first and second grade was difficult in a dress/skirt. Later in the 70's the rule was changed and pants were allowed. So . . . I remember when it was the rule and these nudniks may try to bring those days back again.

(75,480 posts)I kid you not. In my early working life, women were not allowed to wear pants on the job, even if it involved climbing up on ladders, and office workers, like secretaries, were expected to wear high heeled shoes at all times. They also told us what length our skirts had to be. One of my co-workers was sent home to change her clothes because her skirt was considered too short, that is an inch above her knee, which was the fashion at the time and another one told to remove some of her jewelry because she "looked like a cheap Christmas tree" and it reflected on the company's reputation.
I know dress code sounds trivial, but it's another way of controlling women and making them feel inferior by criticizing their judgement in making clothing selections. They also used to ask rude questions when hiring you, if you were planning on getting married and getting pregnant. They don't want any pregnant ladies, but apparently don't want them to have access to the means to control that either.

When I was pregnant with my first child many years ago, I went to our HR office to inquire about maternity leave. Our very conservative HR director scoffed and informed me that "we don't reward you for getting pregnant." But you know, they're very pro-life

(17,202 posts)What are these people thinking of? It's not just that these bills are passed or approved, but the overwhelming majorities of such votes that amazes me. 6-2? 3 out of 4 legislators on this committee actually think this is a good idea?
Whatever they are thinking of -- choose your favorite cliche -- it is clear that the public welfare is not their concern. Funny thing, I thought one of the purposes of legislators was to promote the public welfare.

(4,056 posts)Really, AZ? REALLY??
Anyway, I left a message on her machine, letting her know in no uncertain terms that women are leaving the Republican Party in Droves. And that the assault on women affects men--they have wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers, et al. I wanted to mention that most households need wives to work, and if they get fired, it just means more state unemployment but I didn't know how long I could talk.
Anyway, here's her info if you want to inundate the phone lines:
