My Fundie Aunt sends us greetings

To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other countries nor the only "America" in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

To My Republican Friends:
Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

POOR AUNTIE, SHE TRIES. SHE'S GETTING UP THERE, YOU KNOW...

The only grammar they know died 10 years ago...and is buried in the family plot.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Actually, that's kind of cute. It certainly describes my mindset when I express my wish to others to "Enjoy your holidays!"

Although my greeting is considerably less wordy, everything she expresses (without reference to political parties, of course) is implied.

She got it in one of those below the radar emails, then copy/pasted to you. Wingnuts aren't original.

Just google "To all my democrat friends."

Probably thought it was one of those "how to piss off a liberal" things.

but achieve petulance.

the "liberal" holiday greetings are surprisingly respectful, accurate, and inoffensive.

Apart from calling us "Democrat Friends" instead of "Democratic Friends", it's actually quite respectful.

Is New Year's a "religious" holiday? And yet she puts them in the same sentence to her Republican friends in the same greeting. I do hope this doesn't mean that by including Happy New Year with Merry Christmas, she doesn't get accused of being a collaborator in the "War on Christmas" by making this attempt to recognize any other holiday this month other than the right-wing-religiously-approved-fake-date-of-Jesus'-birth.

It's kind of funny. Short sighted...but funny. It overlooks so much. It even overlooks the fact that many of her democratic friends would be content with...

Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

But, I guess it serves their purpose to lump everyone into a box. It give the unrealistic impression that they can throw the box away when they get tired of dealing with it.

Oh well...
