seems to be some anti grit sentiment attached to the deserved contempt for rmoney
i would like to come to the defence of the humble grit
a grit is just some hot cereal meal in this case hominy corn
no different than oatmeal or farina or cream of wheat or cous-cous
they are what you want them to be not so much a flavor themselves but a vehicle for flavors
add anything to grits and thats what you have
cinnamon and brown sugar or cheese or even drop an egg in them
grits can work at any meal from nice buttery grits for breakfast to some delicious shrimp and grits for supper
so come on folks give grits a break they did not ask romney to come around and talk about them

(22,239 posts)like confusing grits and crepes, or polenta and tortillas?
For the record, I never even heard of polenta until about 5 years ago and grew up eating grits, but my initial impression of polenta when I ate it was that it was a lot like grits, only less "creamy" (likely due to the fineness of the grind and the fact that the bran and germ are removed in the process of making grits).

(9,656 posts)Sorry, I couldn't resist. I was just checking on line and was somewhat surprised to see there are different kinds of grits. Growing up in the midwest we didn't have grits, and rice was just the regular white variety. It's great to be able to keep the diversity.

If you diss them in a Waffle House, you won't get out alive!

(36,063 posts)You call it grits, I grew up with "cornmeal mush". It's OK if you disguise it with sauteed sweet pepper and onion.
