The generosity of others.

I work the information desk at my local hospital. Normally, I just work part time, 4-8pm Mon thru Fri. But today I was asked to work noon to 8, so the afternoon volunteers could have the day off, and I'd already said I'd work Christmas Day, the entire day, which is 9am to 8pm. It's a little tedious, but not difficult.

This evening, around 6pm, two wonderful young ladies showed up with five boxes of pizza. They said, "We know that you here at the hospital have to work these holidays, and we wanted to give these to you, for the staff, to show that we appreciate what everyone does here." I was completely blown away. I even tried to give them a tip but they refused. I went around and distributed the pizza to various areas, along with the menus they'd left for us. Everyone was immensely grateful.

I had planned to pack my own lunch tomorrow, but instead I am going to order from them. Because they are open and will be delivering all day on Christmas Day.

I cannot get over how nice that was.

I also have a son who does pizza delivery in Portland, OR. He's off tomorrow, but he'll be working New Year's Day.

Just wanted to share.

I always worked the shift, it's not a holiday for me, but I get it. So one year, we delivered a kid on Christmas Eve. Well, next year the family came, to see us Medics at the hospital and brought turkey, fixings, and the rest, as a thank you. And they kept doing it until I left the job. The child was 10 by then, so I wonder if they kept that after that?

We watched that kid that we literally delivered, clamped cord, and the rest, grow up to be a young bright lad. It was a privilege. Oh by the third year we got the message, so we also got them gifts, including toys for the kid. We were slow, I know.

While I am not a religious person at all, and I personally only observe the secular aspects of Christmas, I just don't get those who are offended when others wish them Merry Christmas.

I exchanged plenty such greetings today, and there will be plenty more tomorrow.

Or happy holidays. It is being insulted for the most minor of issues.
