Cherry trees are blossoming they must have fallen for that climate change hoax. Tea party will send people to explain to the trees not to believe the science about climate change.

(21,020 posts)plants and animals up in my area that are being fooled by all this climate change hoax stuff as well.
They might want to send some people up here to give my plants and critters a good lecture also. I can't stand seeing the flora and fauna making fools of themselves...

(6,598 posts)We're expecting 80 degree temps today, all the apple, peach and cherry trees are budding out, and everyone's worried about what will happen in April when an inevitable freeze occurs and kills the entire season of fruit crops. It's mid-March, and the daffodils are getting ready to bloom, everything is budding, but all the climate change deniers are in hiding. Hmmm...

(32,822 posts)The last "proper" winter we had was two years ago, when we got dumped on - a "century year". Previous to that, it was another five years before.

(34,136 posts)Last year was one of the coldest winters on record here (Tallahassee, Florida). The summer before that was one of the hottest summers on record here. This year we had one decent cold snap. Today I saw a June bug - named because they usually show up in June. The mosquitoes and flies are out in full force.
Whatever is happening, the climate is changing.

(6,598 posts)are no longer the right height. We had a freak blizzard that came down the center of the state in early Nov. last winter, 10.5" in a 3-4hr. period of very heavy, wet snow that all but wrecked them. The oldest ones got it the worst. mittens only visited the west and east parts, so the idiot probably didn't see the destruction. But, I am pruning the bottom of my Japanese Maple today, so the bottom will be the right height.

I learned my lesson...it's not just tea parties who will gladly give that talk to the cherry blossoms.

(2,850 posts)Almonds, Nectarines and Apricots are also blooming. We got very little fruit last year, One apple set fruit but the birds ate it all before they were ripe. We did get pears. We are expecting a week of rain now, likely a big freeze at the end, and a possible freeze in April, though March is usually our last one.

(4,723 posts)some trees are losing the blossoms pretty quickly now, as of March 14. I remember walking with my partner to get Easter Sunday lunch in 2010, and commenting on the Bradford Pears blossoming. I checked the date of Easter in 2010; it was April 4. VERY early this year. Many of the trees are leaving out, the flowers are all blooming; today it was near 80. They are predicting 77 for the St Pat's parade. I went last year, and there was freezing precip falling. This is all in Springfield, MO, BTW. I've seen more snow fall in an hour here than fell ALL WINTER this year. It is one odd winter, indeed. I know this is not evidence alone of climate change. But is a bit unnerving, wondering what kind of a nightmare of heat this summer will be.
