So I guess Pennsylvania is next with the forced rape on women.....

Pennsylvania joins states that would require ultrasound before abortion

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2012/03/abortion_ultrasounds_law.html

Doctors have for years used transvaginal ultrasounds to evaluate intrauterine fibroids and tumors.

The probe is standard protocol among obstetricians: The grainy, black-and-white images provide information about the viability and stage of gestation and give women Facebook bragging rights.

This innocuous medical tool — a 4-inch cylinder about the size of a tampon applicator attached to a handle — is at the center of the most contemptuously debated topic in American discourse: abortion.

In recent weeks, Pennsylvania has become the latest among a growing number of states to make the transvaginal ultrasound probe a pawn in the abortion debate. The procedure is almost universally administered by obstetricians and abortion providers across the state prior to a dilation and evacuation — or abortion.

At least for some women they'll be fortunately enough to be near the NY/NJ/DE borders where they can get the procedure done without such horrible things done to them ahead of time.

I think Governor Corbett is going to be the first PA governor in decades to not serve 2 terms. Hopefully the pedophilia enabler will crash in burn in 2014!

I don't care if it's the law. It's so wrong.

I just can't imagine that in the privacy of the doctor's office, that this law would actually be played
out in real life.

You're a pregnant woman, in distress. You want to end the pregnancy. You're upset about the situation
as it is, but you're forced to endure this invasive procedure. Clearly, the patient will be expressing
outrage and lots of negative emotions about having to endure this. Clearly, the doctor will understand
what is going on and the politics behind all of this.

What Doctor would actually perform this procedure on a woman who absolutely, unequivocally does
not want it performed on them?

I bet doctors refuse to do this. I bet doctors (who aren't nut jobs) just flat out don't do this.

I am so sickened by this. Women have been stripped of rights over their own bodies and doctors have
no say--but the government gets to decide. How is that NOT sick?

How is this the "less government" that these hypocritical, ignorant, right-wing lunatics scream about all
of the time? These people make me sick.

I manage to keep my rage on this topic simmering most of the time, but it goes into a full boil when I read articles or hear on TV what these assholes are trying to do. There are not words vile enough to describe what I think of them.

They want a lot smaller number of doctors anyways, it won't bother them that half or more quit or move to other states. There will, unfortunately, be enough left to do THAT job.

No, it's going to take more than relying on the doctors to fix things.

The writer has clearly never had a transvaginal ultrasound. Or used a tampon.

Everyone is outraged over these forced rape bills, but when it passed here in Texas, I don't recall anyone being up in arms about it. I'm not criticizing anyone, but shit goes down in Texas and it seems to be off the radar.

Planned Parenthood in Texas is REQUIRED by law to ensure that the patient hears a heartbeat prior to an abortion. This means that very early on, a transvaginal ultrasound is the only way to do this. Even worse, their equipment is outdated, they are being forced to upgrade to more sensitive devices that comply with the law, at a cost of 50k per device.

The article says this:

"The procedure is almost universally administered by obstetricians and abortion providers across the state prior to a dilation and evacuation — or abortion."

That has to be a lie.

I refuse to believe that abortion providers across the state of Pennsylvania would subject women to an invasive procedure such as this prior to an abortion.

I've worked in an OBGYN clinic. They performed these kinds of ultrasounds for specific medical reasons such as assessing pelvic organs, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts. I've seen it used to assess masses and ectopic pregnancy. They've used it for fertility treatments.

My daughter had one for her pregnancy, but it was not required. It was not a medical necessity.

sleeps through elections (like 2010).

The Governor is also about to sign the latest Jim Crow Voter ID bill into law as well. Just passed the State Assembly today and is off to his desk.

There's a chance to end his sudden reign of terror by replacing that Assembly with Dems again and making the attempt to do the same in the State Senate (for those that have Senators up).
