After 100+ advertisers bailed on Rush, and after he was forced to apologize for calling Fluke
a "slut" and a "prostitute" you would think that Limbaugh would tone it down--or at least move
on from his misogynistic, ignorant comments and behavior.
He took Monday off. I thought for sure, we would hear a toned-down Limbaugh for the rest of the week. After all, when
you cause a national uproar by calling a woman a "slut" and a "prostitute"--it just might be wise to, at the very least--refrain from insulting women. Right?
Oh no. Not Rush.
I tuned in yesterday and he was making fun of the NOW (National Organization of Women) organization. He
did a long segment on NOW and one of their meetings. He kept referring to the organization as "NAG". As
Rush said, "We affectionally refer to this organization as NAG--the national organization of gals". He kept
referring to the members of NOW as "nags" and "gals".
The President of NOW spoke about Rush's comments, and Rush played a few sound bytes and said that the "NAG
gang thinks my comments were funny." He kept going on and on about how they loved his comments. He also
said that Obama's approval ratings among women went down after Rush made these comments. Therefore, Rush
deduced that this was a losing issue for Democrats--who were being hurt by this issue--not Rush.
I wanted to jump into my car radio and scream, "Yeah, Rush--Your comments were so disgusting and so vile against
women, that women of all political and socioeconomic stripes were disgusted with politics in general. YOU RUSH,
turned all women off to all politicians--that's how revolting, disgusting, pathetic and vile you and your words are!"
Ninety-eight percent of all Catholic women use birth control. Most women use birth control at some point in their lives. Rush was not only calling Fluke these names--he was calling ALL women these names--and frankly, the Democrats have not done enough to call out Rush for the disgusting, misogynistic creep that he is. The fact that Rush can make these comments and continue to have a national radio program--turns off the vast majority of women to the entire political world.
So, in case you were wondering if Rush just might have one shred of decency, self respect or common sense--he doesn't. Most people would be willing to at least *hide* or tamp down their vile, unpopular attitudes--in order to save their careers and their lifework that they've spent two decades cultivating. Not Rush. Disparaging women and belittling them is more more important to Rush than his career or his reputation.

Seems to me that something more needs to be done to send a message that the AM broadcast spectrum can't be monopolized by hate radio. I guess we could always contact the FCC, and ask them to do their job and regulate that medium.

I've observed in myself, that when I disparage another person (even just "I can't believe she's wearing those shoes with that dress" type of thing) it's just to make myself feel better about myself. I'm better than her because I'd know not to wear those shoes. Helping ease my insecurities. I think that's what they get from him -- validation they're not alone and they're smarter than everyone who doesn't see the Truth.
Although, my pop psychology fails when it comes to my shredding Republicans. I really don't need validation that I'm right and they're wrong (I honestly believe that), so I'm not sure what I get from it.
But you're right, that's all he has to offer -- or is the key to his success. I think if he saw the light he'd lose listeners in droves.

And his target hasn't really changed, it has always been about women you know welfare queens. And he really does hate liberals for daring to say there should be some kind of safety net for people. Not just for single women, but for you know the disabled, the elderly, and the unemployed. Lets not forget this is the guy that said that poor children should dumpster dive for food.

(17 posts)From Business Insider:
As advertisers keep joining in on the Rush Limbaugh boycott, one company only lasted a week before it went back to the conservative talk show host with its tail between its legs. But Limbaugh is not ready to forgive and forget.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Sleep Train, which had advertised with Limbaugh for 25 years, asked to relaunch a "voiced endorsement" on Limbaugh's show on Thursday ... and they were turned down.

Apparently the boycott is having little actual effect on Rush or Clear Channel. You won't take back a 25 year advertiser?!? That's either an extremely wealthy person who doesn't give a damn (probable) and/or he's extremely bitter.

(2,966 posts)Everything he says is bullshit, and the opposite of what he says is nearly true:
Everything is fine with me = I'm circling the bowl.
My advertisers are begging to come back = more of my advertisers are running away.
Fluke is a slut = I'm a slut
Birth control shouldn't be a taxpayer burden = I shouldn't be a taxpayer burden.
NOW loves my comments = NOW hates my comments.
Obama is losing women = women love Obama more than ever.
I have 20 million loyal listeners = I have 20 rabid listeners.

(5,198 posts)If the DOD was supporting just any radio show with high ratings they would support left leaning ones as well, but they want rah rahs for war and destruction, hate and prejudice and subjugation of women.... they are in the war/arms business and it is ugly. It is unethical to allow such a broadcast overseas in a war zone--I would think it would actually endanger the troops.
What pisses me off is that my tax dollars pay for this filth, and it needs to stop. I am a liberal and believe our first amendment covers a lot of ground--but does it cover propaganda? Entertainment shows that masquerade as news organizations, inciting violence and destructive behavior, give credence to prejudice and willful ignorance. They do so by lying to the public, by fooling great numbers of people to act and vote against their own interests.
Abusing first amendment rights and freedom of the press endanger these rights, they do not support and stretch them. We are in danger of losing most of our Constitutional Rights now, and it is up to us to fight to keep them--and make them work for us.
Rush Limbaugh is a con man, and like charismatic cult leaders, thrives during unstable times. The people of this country have to get our voices back, so that we have public airwaves that represent what WE want to hear, truth and information clearly separated from entertainment.
I will not be satisfied until this leech is completely off the air and the Fairness Doctrine is re enacted.

(182,824 posts)He has tried to convey the old inside-his-show-jokes to the supposedly new listeners.
This is classic big top salesmanship. Everyone is doing it!! Come in and welcome be just like all the rest!!!
This actually clogs up his show and his regulars either believe it (probably) or feel like they are being lectured to (what's new?).
It is interesting to listen to in the fact that he was already way off his game and now he is speaking to an imaginery audience.

(5,763 posts)Jon Stewart was wrong. What he about Fluke was different than anything he's said before, at least anything that's gained attention outside his audience. What I think: He blew a circuit. This rant was not just malicious and lying; it was psychotic. So, IMHO, Rush has gone around the bend.
And now that women and "liberals" have dared put him in so much hot water, he won't be able to restrain his rage. Just take my word for this: if he's not taken off over Fluke, what he says over the next six months is going to be worse. He is gone.
And why should he restrain himself, really? The guy has so much FU-money that he might as well retire. His rage and frustration have apparently only grown. His three hour daily mouth dump must have eaten his soul by now. It's a kind of anti-therapy that only makes him sicker.
