By not giving a speech on primary night and in Alabama and Mississippi, Mitt Romney sent a clear middle finger raised sore loser message to the South.

It should be terrifying to the Republican Party leadership that Mitt Romney cant win southern conservative states in the Republican primary. Romney has now lost South Carolina, Oklahoma, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, and Alabama. Romneys strongest performances have come in Northern states that Obama is a virtual certainty to carry in November.
South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Oklahoma all voted for weak Republicans Bob Dole in 1996 and John McCain in 2008. If Romney cant get these solidly Republican voters excited about him in the primary, how is he going to get them fired up about voting for him in November?
The Romney campaign sent the South the message that if they arent going to vote for Mitt then, f**k you. No one should buy the lame travel excuse for a second. Presidential campaigns set their own travel schedules and they have no qualms about being late if it means snagging the national media spotlight. The Romney campaign intentionally cooked up the travel excuse as a reason to punish the South. Mitt Romney was trying to delegitimize the results in Mississippi and Alabama.

(2,983 posts)It doesn't help him that he's a Mormon or that Santorum's particular breed of religious insanity appeals highly to religious conservatives. The Christian right is strongly in Santorum's corner. It was the evangelical wing of the republican party that was responsible for Bush winning the republican primary over McCain, some years back now. I suspect that if/when Gingrich pulls out of the race, Santorum will most likely gain the lead by a fair margin.
Romney can do his utmost to outconservative Santorum, but it's just not very convincing.
Frankly though, Santorum and his strength within the evangelical community disturbs me greatly. Some fanatics will stop at nothing to win their holy wars and a number of them most likely see this election as such. A vote between the good righteous Christians and the terrible, morally bankrupt democrats. This is honestly how many of them see it.
If Santorum should become President through means legal or illegal (I.E. hacked electronic voting machines, voter intimidation, fraud, etc.) then I will be one of the first to flee the Country. The man is a dangerous lunatic who would gladly lead us into the world's next holy war. He's a hell of a lot scarier than Bush was.
