A 16-year-old Moroccan girl has reportedly killed herself after a judge ordered her to marry the man that raped her.

I hate to sound rude BUT honor is so important in that part of the world Part of me is asking IF she actually committed suicide or IF she was given it.

Either way that poor girl suffered too much in such a short time.

18. Yup, the thinking behind that law is that women are property.

A girl is the father's property, just like a cow or a goat. Because she gets raped, her value is then lost. So the father doesn't want to bother supporting her any more since she no longer has any value. So she gets thrown to the rapist to support or kill as he sees fit. It's kind of like in a store, you break the merchandise, you buy it. Same idea.

It wasn't until the 1960's or 70's that US rape laws got changed...before that they were laws against the damage of property. Raping your wife damaged a husband's property, a girl, a father's property. Rape was considered a property crime rather than a serious crime like murder of a man.
