A python strangled a security guard near a luxury hotel on Indonesia's resort island of Bali on Friday, and then escaped into nearby bushes following the deadly attack, police and a hotel employee who witnessed the incident said.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. as the 4.5-meter (15-foot) -long python was slithering across a road near the Bali Hyatt hotel, said Agung Bawa, an assistant security manager at the hotel, which is closed for renovations until 2015.
The victim, Ambar Arianto Mulyo, was a 59-year-old security guard at a nearby restaurant. He had offered to help capture the snake, which had apparently been spotted several times before near the hotel, located in Bali's Sanur area, Bawa said. Mulyo managed to secure the snake's head and tail and put it on his shoulders, but the python wrapped itself around his body and strangled him, said Bawa, who was present during the attack.
People watching the incident were unable or unwilling to help and called the police, who came but failed to save the man. The python escaped into nearby bushes, and police were still searching for it.
Denpasar police Capt. Gusti Ngurah Yudistira said Mulyo died of suffocation. "It happened so fast," Bawa said. "We were sad because we could not do anything to help him." Yudistira warned people to be alert since the snake was still on the loose in the area, which is popular with tourists.
Deadly attacks on adult humans by pythons are rare, but have been documented before.

(32,028 posts)But you give him the "Darwin Award". Yes, it didn't go as he planned. Too bad you weren't there to instruct him. What an ass.

Interesting debate tactic.
It's better to insult people than have them listen to the point you were trying to make.
You're adorable.

(32,028 posts)You're not adorable and your post was offensive. You weren't there and you have no idea what happened. You are just going by some reporter who was not there putting comments down from some witness who may or may not have been there the whole time. But that does not stop you from being the Grand Judge -- as if you would know what to do in that situation.

(24,229 posts)And I do know what to do do in that situation: You don't wrap the snake around your neck.
You are still adorable, in an angry puppy kind of way.

Would that be an insult like "Darwin Award?"
However, I'm quite certain you'll draw a distinction without a difference so as to illustrate that you rarely, if ever, hold others to a higher standard than you hold yourself.

he "offered to help capture the snake" -
Well - the snake won.
"The incident happened around 3 a.m. as the 4.5-meter (15-foot) -long python was slithering across a road".
3am - going after a 15 foot python that was just crossing the road . . . .
