My daughter started her new medication today

It's called Soliris or Eculizumab. She has been diagnosed with Dent's Deposit Disease. The cost of this medication is $17,000 per dose or $409,000 per year. I'm thankful that the hospital and drug company are picking up the cost of this medicine, otherwise she would be looking for a new kidney in 10 years time. Apparently the drug company is trying to find other uses for it.

for reasons of national security.

What makes these companies think they can hold someone's life hostage for that much money?

"How does a medicine get to be that expensive?"

Especially since our tax dollars are paying for R&D.
