Anyone else celebrating Christmas late?

We are. My sister, her husband and her two kids got here tonight. Christmas dinner was pizza and hot wings - real Christmas dinner - because family arrived. I waited to open gifts, too. They got me a few great gifts, and everyone had some laughs. They are staying with my parents around the corner, but that is what Christmas is really about, your family

and to you and yours, too. It has actually been a lot of fun seeing them. I think with the pressure of it not being exactly the holidays and everyone being able to relax, it has been SO much more fun.

everybody I sent something to! It's tradition in my family, it's not a religious things for us and so we decided that doing "the thing" after all the fuss was better. Now that we all live all over the place, we just send something thta will show up after the 25th... on purpose.

that the purse she ordered from some shady outlet didn't arrive in time was rather hilarious. Still, the point was, we'd rather have the money to put in the purse than to spend it on the purse. We're kind of a pragmatic bunch.

My family can be a pain in the behind, but it is nice to be reminded why I love them.

are together. That is pretty much what it amounted to for our family this year because the 25th was not possible considering that 1 works in a hospital, I work in IT and nobody could get together until we all got into the same city. It's great, though, now! I'm not sure I would appreciate it as much if it wasn't so hard for us all to get together!

We used to have two Christmases, too. It was always on the Sunday after Christmas, so the extended family could get together. It was a nice tradition, but it just got to be too much for me. I would knock myself out cooking, cleaning, decorating, wrapping, etc. I don't miss it, honestly.

This is a good question that you asked, and I'm surprised this many people are saying yes.

My daughter couldn't get time off at Christmas, and we view the whole week until New Years' as Christmas anyway. Since there's only really her and me left now, and we're both liking it better this way, we may do it again next year. It's kind of nice to be out of sync with the mass numbers of people at a time like this. It sure is a lot less pressure. Besides we had sort of a "sentimental" Christmas at the right time too.

Christmas has been tough for us because my husband passed away a few days before Christmas six years ago. That imprinted on the whole feeling of "the holidays", I guess. Somehow, "doing it our way" has helped us to stay more cheerful during the season since then. We do all the same things, but do them differently in some way. It's just instinctive to do that, I think.

Glad you're having such good times with your family Aerows, as are we. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

ended up watching Star Trek: Into Darkness, and I gave my other niece another gift. She loves to draw, and I saw what she could do with just a pencil and paper. My word, I wish I could give her more, but I gave her a new book and my favorite pencil. She is truly brilliant.

And I don't hand out the term brilliant lightly. She is extremely talented.

While I've yet to feel much like celebrating anything this year, the dates of the various holidays never made me feel obliged to restrict myself to them. I've a box that I'm preparing for my daughter, sending homemade goodies, but I still need to go into town and (dread) shop, before I mail it. So, in that way, yeah, I'm late, but she's used to that (she knows me well, ha!).

Merry Christmas, Aerows, to you and yours!

20. The explanation for surgery
Mon Dec 30, 2013, 05:44 AM
Dec 2013

I had a brutal car accident, (I was hit) three years ago, needing facial reconstructive surgery which I got.

But my right hip was damaged severely. It healed but filled with arthritis, bone spurs and was slowly disintegrating. Slowly, forcing me to become almost reclusive since it hurt so much to walk.

Anyway, about six months ago the hip bones themselves simply started grinding against each other making things just plain excruciating. So last Tuesday I had surgery to replace the whole right hip.

The result? Its wonderful, Lots of surgical pain, but all the chronic mind-numbing pain is gone. The Doctor said I could even go back to Kendo Practice in 6-9 months. I may not have my old speed at Kendo, but that ok I wont be trapped inside the apt anymore.

I might have a social life again even, finding a girlfriend would be really nice.
