Republican House members pushed back against a New York Times article that reported local militias, not al Qaeda forces, were behind the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans.
Rep. Mike Rogers, the Michigan Republican who heads the House Intelligence Committee, said on Fox News Sunday that Times reporter David Kirkpatricks story, a months-long investigation that relied on interviews with witnesses on the ground at the time of the attack, was inaccurate.
When asked about the report, Rogers told host Chris Wallace, It tells me they didnt talk to people on the ground who were doing the fighting and shooting and the intelligence gathering. When you put that volume of information, I think that proves that that storys just not accurate.
Appearing on Meet the Press, Kirkpatrick suggested that congressional leaders who insist al Qaeda is to blame for the events in Libya are the ones obscuring facts. Theres just no chance that this was an al Qaeda attack if, by al Qaeda, you mean the organization founded by Osama bin Laden, he said. If youre using the term al Qaeda to describe even a local group of Islamist militants who may dislike democracy or have a grudge against the United States, if youre going to call anybody like that al Qaeda, then okay.

they will still hold hearings, they will lie and lie and lie about benghazi through the 2014, 2016 elections.

(19,993 posts)2. Hmmm...
California Democrat Adam Schiff, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee with Rogers, agreed with his colleague on Fox News. The intelligence indicates that al Qaeda was involved, he said.
I don't think Rep. Schiff is one of Issa's crackpots.
Apparently the government has some intercepts or other intelligence that the NYT didn't have access to. Perhaps somebody in the intelligence community took some editorial liberties when interpreting and presenting the intelligence to the Intelligence Committee. Because, you know, organized terrorism!!! Slam dunk!!!

Election to negatively affect the Democrats they blotched the investigation. They can not find the answers they want so they implied "evidence" to suit the moment. Of course FOX and their listeners was more than happy to run away from the facts in favor of their own.

(70,242 posts)4. Headline should read "Republican House........."
I saw Issa on MTP--He was lying through his teeth--just repeating his talking points.
I think he should be removed from the committee. But of course no Repug in control such as Bone man or Canter would do the right thing!

makes me sick to my stomach. Repukes are like a cancer on our economy and society. Always destructive and never constructive.
