I Think I've Figured Out Why Rich Rethugs Have No Sympathy For The Poor

It's because deep down, they know that they themselves are talentless, mediocre people who contribute nothing to society, but who somehow have a good-paying job.

This is especially true of the RW media types. Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity - they know that they're talentless hacks, so they figure, "how hard is it to earn millions? Look at me."

They have no sympathy for anybody.

These are the people that go to church, shake the hands, act pious, and cut pensions.

They
Don't
Care.

At All.

We already know that a worryingly high number of politicians (and business leaders) test out as psychopaths because the traits which identify psychopathy are traits that politics selects for. My hypothesis is that teh thrill these people get from, say, cancelling welfare just before xmas, is the exact same thrill that serial killers get from murdering someone. Same mindset of causing pain but spread across thousands rather than inflicted purely on one.

but sadly believable hypothesis... and the answer is probably that you are correct.

Having worked for many people, rich and poor, it is always the rich who treat workers like slaves.

They get a thrill out of torturing workers.

to feel good about themselves.

All this attention the right wing radio and tv pundits call on minorities and other oppressed groups is about stressing the difference between themselves and those struggling. The oppressed groups can be betrayed as always wanting what white, straight, male America has so white, straight, male America can ever feel successful and good about themselves. And that's why they tune in. Because Tush McDimbaugh makes them feel they have something other groups don't have and aren't "smart" enough to acquire. And it makes them happy about themselves by comparison.

That's why all of Porky's targets are groups that are struggling in various areas of cultural achievement and recognition, none white, straight and male, except maybe when they're among the young. They hate all of the young. All the young are seen as the perennial "beta male." Never to be as wise as the aged and always the lowest in the pecking order.

The strugglers are always "the complainers", the discontents, while the white, straight, male listeners of Porky's show are supposed to be portrayed as the quiet and wise sages with the keys to the kingdom. How convenient, eh? No. No, self-interest or emotional rewards invested in beating that message out. None at all.

They tune in for the fabricated shot of self-esteem derived out of a comparison between themselves and groups that are struggling.

Pretty sick.

I think one could also argue that, deep down, they suspect that many of the poor are actually more talented or otherwise deserving than they are; their only superiority has to do with exploitation; but they can't feel good about themselves unless they pretend that whatever it is that they're doing is what deserves to be rewarded, while whatever it is that the poor might do, doesn't.

Because, in fact, most of the real creativity, inventiveness, and plain hard work comes from the bottom; those at the top are mostly just good at exploiting it, promoting themselves, and various Machiavellian machinations that have nothing to do with actual productivity.
