everyone of those women would be on a 2 week bulimic purging regimen if they ever ate something as fat and calorie-laden as one of those burgers.

Joking aside, I don't mind the idea that sex sells; what I find troubling is that the feminine ideal that is desired is unhealthy for most women to obtain and sustain. It's a two-edged sword: advertisers respond to what people want to see but people respond to what advertisers hold up as an example of that-which-is-most-desired. I would like to think that an appeal to our better senses as well as natural affection for our daughters, wives and mothers would create a third, greater force of gravity to re-draw society's concept of the beautiful woman and that in turn will lead advertisers to embrace the notion that the truly sexy sells.

Disclaimer -- I have one of those slim physiques (I was, however, cheated in the boobs department. Oh, wretched Fate!). I eat what I want though what I want to eat is generally pretty healthy so I don't watch my diet. That being said I recognize how unhealthy it is for women to be incessantly deluged by images that -- to my mind, at least -- must leave them feeling inferior though no fault of their own. It's heartbreaking to watch some days and my heart goes out to them. In addition to a change in society's concepts of beauty I think it would be even healthier to just say, "F*** this bulls***! I am who I am and I'm proud of that!" Self-empowerment is the most powerful empowerment.
