First Lady Michelle Obama is a frequent, favorite target of right-wing ire, but occasionally, the First Lady attracts the attention of Washington, DCs society reporters. The latest red-hot scandal involves Mrs. Obamas save-the-date cards to a Jan. 18 Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert event at the White House, and its instruction for guests to Eat before you come, which has caused a mini-ettiquake in the society press.
The Chicago Tribunes Katherine Skiba unwittingly kicked the whole thing off with this lone nugget, embedded within a lengthy article about the First Lady:
Guests are being told: Wear comfortable shoes, eat before you come and practice your dance moves. Whos invited and wholl entertain remain under wraps.
The Washington Posts Reliable Source gossip blog went with the passive/aggressive headline I Dont Think Its Rude, But Etiquette Experts Perplexed Over First Ladys Party Plans, and tapped etiquette expert and Emily Post granddaughter Lizzie Post to evaluate the email:
My advice to people would be not to put eat before you come on an invite, Post said. And this is not a specific etiquette thing. To me it just sounds so instructive. Im still in the camp of letting them know what will be served at the party instead of what they should do.

But it was fun to watch him cry when he engineered the recall of CA Governor Gray Davis, thinking he would become Governor and then seeing Arnold steal it away.

(59 posts)Good for her. And if she had a 6 course meal with gold leaf chocolate cake heads would be exploding all over the place.
if she provided a meal the teabaggers would go ballistic about taxpayer money, bla bla bla. Win win, my tea party friend often takes both sides of an issue, the irony is totally lost on him.
