Nope, no where in my post did I say it was common.
What I did say was It's January. Last I checked, January is Winter Time in the Northern Hemisphere which means it gets cold.
I have earned, and still do, my living working outside. I have worked in colder temperatures than we are experiencing now. It comes with the territory, it's January.
Peace, John

Ice storms both times with one of them over 2 feet of snow in my yard. Never have I seen that kind of snow here, ever.

As they say with global warming the weather will be extreme of which we've been having. We've had some big swings in our weather.

for Atlanta, lows in the mid 30's and highs into the upper 50's is cold.

It's 18 and we've had temps as low as 5 this week. That is NOT January in Atlanta!

Gonna be 62 later this week. THAT'S January!

Average temperature for this date/period over the last couple of decades is 23. It's been struggling to get out of the single digits before taking into account for the wind chill, which is brutal in an elevated and/or open area.

Yes, it's January. Yes, it's cold, but this is not normal, which is what every meteorologist is saying.

17. Some claim we were overdue

Jan 2014

According to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson, "We were overdue for a large arctic outbreak of this intensity."

On average, outbreaks as large and intense as the one that occurred early this week occur once every 10 years. The last far-reaching, bitterly cold blasts occurred in the mid-1990s, during February of 1996 and January of 1994.
