Women in Kansas and around the nation will be holding a sex strike from April 28-May 5, 2012. Governor Sam Brownback has declared himself the master of womens reproductive systems, with a proposed bill that would allow doctors to withhold information that could threaten the lives of pregnant mothers.
In modern times, sex strikes have been used by women in Colombia, Liberia, Kenya and the Philippines to gain freedom or achieve peace. The Greek anti-war comedy Lysistrata, which was originally performed in Athens, in 411 BC, featured women using sex strikes to end war.
Women who wish to participate in the strike should simply inform their partners that they will not be having any sexual relations until the strike ends. If a partner has any question or complaint, they should call Governor Brownbacks office.
Considering Brownbacks deep involvement in womens reproductive health, his staff should be very fluent in the language regarding womens health and should be able to alleviate any concerns that deprived spouses and partners may have.

Sorry, a cold piece of plastic is no substitute for my man's arms around me and his kisses.

There is nothing demeaning about masturbation. It is normal and healthy.
When I worked for Planned Parenthood of CT I used to discuss sex education with the Education dept. and we had some marvelous conversations about all different outlets for healthy, happy sex. So I was used to being quite open and frank about such things. My husband thought that was a GOOD thing!
HappyMe
(20,277 posts)A vibrator is a sex toy. Wouldn't it have to be bought in a sex toy shop, or ordered from one? I thought those shops were considered demeaning to women.
I am not at all in favor of the sex strike. Withholding expression of love and physical desire is just plain wrong. It plays right into a very negative stereotype of women.

Assumes that women don't enjoy sex.
I'm waiting for May 6, when they will report that 'millions' participated.

(47,953 posts)Seriously, all these things will do nothing but appear on the weird news section of the TV, or humor sections. If women want this crap to stop, vote Democrat this fall. If most (and I mean >70%) women did this the repubs would be swept from office.

(8,827 posts)And, presumably, the men (and women) who support it?
I mean, you wouldn't expect Brownback's wife to participate - or any other fundamentalist, anti-abortion republican woman - to participate, right?
So essentially the only people who would be punished are the men who would typically be against a bill such as this one, and the women who love them.
