Bears evolved to live in the woods to give bears a higher chance of survival.
Humans evolved to adjust their environment to give humans a higher chance of survival.

Personally, I think we have an overpopulation of malls, and the bear should be allowed to have his woods.

we have a bunch of coyotes and javalena (sp?) running around the wash, about 1/2 mile from the house.

When we first moved into our sub-division (14 years ago), we heard, but rarely saw the critters.

Now, with 1,500 housing units and bladed ground for a shopping center, we see them all the time as their habitats are destroyed.

wide open space for coyotes and javalina.

My father has a winter place in one of those retirement parks with the trailers. A few years ago his neighbor came home one afternoon and when they pulled up, a coyote casually stepped off the chaise lounge where it had been napping in the sun. I don't even know how it got in there since tbere are walls. I suppose it came in through the gate when a car came in.

There are coyotes in my neighborhood in a northern Twin Cities suburb. They were not here just a few years ago.

a healthy adult can get over a 10 in nothing flat.

But, I must say, the one "good" thing about all the development is there are fewer rattlesnakes (I think).

A field and a wooded copse behind my house of about three acres has been a home to hawks, owls, quail, jack rabbits, a variety of rodent species, deer, and any number of other bird species, monarch butterflies and others, as well as visiting predators like coyotes and bob cats. Three months ago new owners came in and cut down most of the trees, which were home to many of the residents. Then they dug up most of the ground leaving mounds of dry dust and uprooted plants in the tractor's wake. They are building a home.

Goodby old neighbors. I'm very sad. I guess welcome to my new human ones complete with kids and dogs.

The Bear wants both of these foul creatures driven to extinction.
