It wasn't the Mayor. It was Loretta Weinberg, Leader of Senate democrats who represents Fort Lee!

(12,041 posts)Are you suggesting that the lanes were closed as revenge against Weinberg rather than the mayor? I have not heard this before, but would be interested to know if there is evidence that suggests such a thing.

(31,879 posts)Crooks and Liars links to Maddow's story.
I was hip deep in Buono's campaign at that time (Mid August) but recalled the 'animal' comments towards the state leg and Christie's petulant fit.
He retaliated for the state legislature calling him to the floor on his behavior.

They're pretty good about posting it fairly quickly. Try getting it late night.
I listen every day.

(40,220 posts)jam was retaliation against State Senate Democrats for not confirming Supreme Court nominees. Loretta Weinberg, leader of Senate democrats represents Fort Lee. There is also a backstory to the Suprene Court nominees, specifically that Christie did not reappoint a democrat and democrats in the Senate were not allowing Christie nominees to get through. Christie held an angry news conference the night before Bridgette Kelly send the traffic jam email.

(61,698 posts)Suggesting that Fort Lee have traffic problems. It was 8/13/13 at 7:34am, the morning after Gov CC had a hussy fit about judicial nominations and called Senate Democrats "animals". The Fort Lee district is represented in State Senate by Loretta Weinberg, whose senate democrats were giving CC's nominees hell in turn for CC not re-nominating the only Black judge on the court, something no gov has ever failed to do. (That story stretches back to 2010.)

(26,549 posts)NJ supreme court justices serve a 7 year term, then come up for re-nomination. After re-nomination, they serve a life term. Every governor in history has re-nominated the sitting justices, regardless of party....until Christie. He refused to re-nominate a Democratic justice.
This enraged the NJ Senate Democrats. So they refused to confirm the nomination of any justices for that seat - the Republican Christie nominated had to wait for another seat to come up.
The day before the bridge incident, a Republican justice came up for re-nomination. NJ Senate Democrats made it clear they were going to grill her hard during confirmation hearings. So Christie pulled her re-nomination. Btw, her husband is high up in the Christie administration.
The next day, the bridge incident happened. Why Ft. Lee? The leader of the NJ Senate Democrats, and chair of the NJ Senate Justice committee, represents Ft. Lee

Select "watch" tab then Maddow. It's quite a long segment but well worth the watch.

(297,655 posts)in my mind.. why the hell wouldn't Christie let the republicon judge go through the confirmation process with those "animals"? It seems like he was cutting off his nose to spite his face.. and her face. It didn't make sense.
Madam Mossfern
(2,340 posts)as him fearing what may come out as part of her 'grilling' especially if you consider the position of her husband. He used the 'animals' thing as a convenient but weak excuse. Honestly, did he really think she couldn't handle it? Does he expect us to think it was an act of chivalry?
Really?
REALLY??

(297,655 posts)to high.. I've had a crash course in Christy these last couple of days.. and I think I've got the picture loud and clear. He's gotten away with that shit far too long.
And, then the Bridge Lanes Closed for 4 Days.

Why aren't the State Senate reps speaking up?
Will this give CC wiggle room? Will he be able to say "see? Now their first theory didn't pan out now they are making up another theory!" Thereby muddying the water even more.

(18,115 posts)When you have the email, it was clearly intentional and with ill motives. When he followed with stonewalling and covering up, it is investigative work to find what the actual motive was.

I also don't think it occurred to our state legislators at all.
Ms. Weinberg looked gobsmacked on Maddow last night. I think she's a goodie - and when you have a good heart - you don't think like that or go there.
Today is going to be interesting. Can't wait to see what Wiesnewski has in store for the Christie Admin today.

(25,704 posts)If only there was a federal agency that had access to everyone's emails, but I am sure they would never use such access for political reasons. Just like Christie would not use his power over certain road agencies in New Jersey to mess with political opponents.
