A 2016 Equation

Republicans say Obama is a socialist but he is, in reality, a moderate.

So even if Americans said they wanted someone like Obama, but not so liberal, there is no such animal. There is no issue-set to Obama's right that remains within the Democratic Party (for purpose of a national presidential election)

Within the Democratic Party, there is no way to distinguish ones self from Obama on the right.

It is entirely possible that "stay the course" (What GHW Bush ran on in 1988 and what Gore should have run on in 2000) will not be a winning option.

It depends on how popular the Obama presidency is in 2016. That is unknown.

So the winning approach in 2016 will either be stay the course, or someone running (somewhat) against Obama from the left.

And nobody knows which of those will offer the best chance of winning.

Nobody.

If we elect a Democratic majority in the House and increase our majority in the Senate, the equation is likely to change dramatically. Imagine a Congress that sends President Obama bills he can sign with gusto. I can imagine that, so I'm going to bust my ass.

GOTV 2014!
